I love your wonderful thoughts on kindness... Such a simple act really but not many are willing to express kindness easily.
My most recent example is that now that I live in a foreign country and I do not speak the language very well, yet...that I make it a point that when someone from this country who is trying to speak a bit of english, that I always say.."you speak english very well" "Way better than I speak Spanish"
This always brings a smile to their face... such a random act of kindness...so easy to do...

Yes, it is so easy to do, and when it brings pleasure to others we need to remember to practise it regularly so it becomes a habit. Thanks so much for your supportive comments.

I agree with the importance of focusing on kindness. My motto has long been "Be Kind." I tried to instill that in my students. When they would be unkind to each other, I would just look at them, and they would say, "We know, Mrs. Mitchell--Be kind. At the end if one of my poems about teaching, I wrote, "I hope they learned from me the art of kindness. This was well written.

Yes, I see that in all your writings and I am sure the students saw that in you every day and will long remember what you said and the consistency with how you acted. Thank you for this very supportive review.

I don't think you are unkind, but I might accuse you of being a little cynical. Very nice piece, Wendy. It is a good reminder that many of these special days should be celebrated every day.

Thank you Paul. Yes probably I am a little cynical especially when self-pampering is the order of the day on Kindness Day. Lol. Perhaps it?s another words whose meaning is changing. (Oops, cynical again.) Thanks so much for reviewing. I value each review.

I agree very much with your point. Kindness is not something that we can put on just for a particular day. We need to be able to be kind all year long. Have a good day and may God bless. Patricia.

Thank you Patricia for your supportive review. Kindness should be innate but it is also something we can learn to do better and more frequently. Many thanks for the valued six stars.

We should really be doing what Jesus, who went out of His way to be kind, compassionate and generous, and He healed all that come to Him. I love the scary scriptures,
Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." (NIV) Matthew 25. Beautifully written, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy. Yes, those Scriptures are rightly challenging. May the Holy Spirit work in each of us to propagate kindness each day.

I would have a problem with such an "exercise" myself; a walk creates kindness? We are either kind or we're not, but everyone can try to be a little kinder. You're right - that comes from within.

I have no idea why anyone would find this post controversial in any way. "Kindness Day" is just another "feel good" thing we act on to make ourselves feel better - not others. If we truly care about others, we are kind to them every day.

Thanks for sharing, Wendy.

I thought some might think I was being a bit like Scrooge about Christmas and other popular festivities, but it?s so easy to lose the meaning and significance when so much emphasis is on excessive feasting and gift giving, and all the traditions. Sometimes it?s a source of anxiety and distress because people try to outdo each other and so on. And I thought some might think it?s better to have a kindness day, than not. It probably is, but it should intentionally form an intrinsic part of all our relationships. Thank you for reviewing with thought and insight. I appreciate it.

Another welcome and intensely thoughtful post, this time on the subject of kindness. I completely agree, Wendy, that, somehow, this quality has, at times, turned into more self-centred preoccupation with self rather than others. And, also, in quite an infantile way, been designated for a date on the calendar (or emboldened in print on our tee-shirts!) rather than being acknowledged as something much more meaningful that has to grow and become integrated in our daily routine. We, often, seem to be lost souls examining our navels and forgetting our social duties and responsibilities in a world that's needing a much greater display of kindness, empathy and understanding, especially in these deeply troubled times. A great and relatable subject, as ever, intelligently addressed. Thank you so much for sharing. Debbie

I agree, Wendy. I call them Hallmark holidays where they encourage us to spend money on gifts and decorations without a thought to the giving of love and respect the holiday is supposed to promote. Let's have every day be a kindness day. Why not? You are not being cynical just realistic. Thanks for pointing it out the holiday rush is nothing I want any part of.

Very well said Jesse. Yes, so much commercialism and trivialising of what should be meaningful. I appreciate your insight. Thanks so much for reviewing.

I agree with all you said. Every year at Christmas time, I wonder why everyone can't behave that way all year round. It's a shame we have to have a special day to make people live up to what should be a basic feeling.

Thank you for a lovely review. Yes these feelings should come more naturally than they do. We shouldn?t need a calendar date to remind us to be kind.
    Thanks again.

I agree with you here Wendy, we should be kind to others everyday as a general rule, not just one day of the year. I feel the same about Christmas, why should be just be generous at Christmas when our generosity should stretch all year round. I do actually think that promoting kindness is a good thing as it reminds people that it is much more rewarding to be kind than hateful. I enjoyed your in-depth post Wendy, a fine presentation, love Dolly x

Thank you Dolly for your insightful review. Yes, it is rewarding and does make one feel good so there is a double effect. These days there are so many token gestures, but genuineness and sincerity of kind acts have gone by the wayside.
