Gretchen, This is a very nicely written short story you have penned. You used very good descriptive words and good imagery from the words you chose. I enjoyed reading this! love and blessings, Teri

Not sure why you think it is pointless. She came up with the idea to try returning to the old days with that kind of decorative enticement. It might even work as Amazon can't compete with a warm welcoming place.

Thanks, Carol. I guess pointless was the wrong word choice. Maybe I should have said random. Just hit me out of the blue. Lol. Thank you for this. Gretchen

You may not know where it came from, but it's very interesting. It's got me wondering what she has planned. Open for a lot of endings, good and bad.

Getting out of the office is the way to get inspiration and this is what you did. I al not sure what idea you came up with, but I hope it saved the company, love Dolly x x x

Lol. I'm sure in true Hallmark tradition Christmas , the mall , and the town were saved. Thank you, Dolly. Gretchen

Jenny is right. Sell shopping as an experience. I think Sears and Target lost customers when they stopped the popcorn. When you entered the mall you could smell the popcorn and walked to get some. My Sears was clever and put it in the very back of the store so we have to walk through all the sales to get some.
Selling popcorn at a loss was no loss for the store.

My favorite food is real movie popcorn like Sears and Target made. No microwave popcorn matches it. :-( Karen

Okay, this was mighty cruel now, wasn't it? Take us down memory lane, Hallmark Movie Channel style, with beautiful images and warm-and-fuzzy feelings, call the head office with your awesome idea about how to jump-start the holiday season and take everyone back to The Good Ole Days of Holiday Sales...and then trust our imagination to take over from there? I feel a big dose of COAL coming to the girl whose stocking reads "GRETCHEN" at the top. Bah freakin humbug, Woman!!

Just a few elements of Christmas are sometimes enough to fire that jaded imagination. This would seem to be a lesson in actually immersing oneself in a situation that will recall all the nostalgic excitement of childhood. Thanks for sharing, Gretchen. Debbie

Hello Gretchen,
well, one thing that online shopping can't do is to capture the feeling of days gone by, when there was a feeling of Christmas cheer in the air. I like Amazon, but I would rather shop where I can see and pick up and examine the product I want. I can't say I'm overjoyed with the rush to put out Christmas merchandise before Halloween, but I do like the general feeling of the season. Well done gal.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

I never shop on line. The rest of my family is very much Amazon. To me, you never know if you're going to get what you ordered or not. Thank you for this. Gretchen

You brought back some memories for me, Gretchen! The shiny green and red packages Santa, Ho Ho Hoing! Wrapping booths! Nice one!

Nothing is ever pointless except broken pencil lead! Lol.

Why are you putting it down? It's a neat story and I like it. Remembering what Christmas was like when we were kids and everything was magic is the perfect inspiraton for bringing it all back today. Even remembering a time when you believed because it was Christmas anything was possible. A old fashion theme is the perfect idea.
