This was interesting. I knew they were in newspapers early, but not that early. I do remember when I learned to read, as a nine-year-old, I loved the comics. Now I'm wondering if I was around for the colorization of the comics. I don't remember that part.

Brett, I enjoyed reading this about the funny papers and Hogan's Alley. I don't remember this one, but I probably did read it. I loved reading the comics. It was the best part of the paper to me! Blessings, Teri

This chapter in Funny Pages, Hogan's Alley, takes me back to my childhood when I would go through the Sunday paper and read the cartoon strips with my brother and sometimes my dad.

Great picture. Kid has jug ears. Mi have never heard of that comic, as I can imagine that most have not.

I must admit, I've never been one for the news, I was never one for caring what went on in the world, nor do I cate now, I've always put things "in God's hands", I've always read the comics, although our are different from the American Comics, well done, blessings Roy

What a great subject to research! Comics in the UK began a bit earlier - probably in a simple form in the 1820s, though a weekly called 'Funny Folks' was popular as early as 1874. But the heyday of the British comic was the 1930s when DC Thomson of Dundee (Scotland) set up his printing empire with 'The Beano', 'The Dandy' and several more best sellers. Every boy (and most girls) in Britain would have read at least one of his publications every week for their entire childhood.
The 'Yellow Kid' of Hogan's Alley fits right in with the misfits like 'Dennis the Menace' and 'Minnie the Minx'! Very interesting.
