I can see how the changing of a name may be a new start, some words today have been changed (swear words mainly) and if we think about the real names for some of them, it does change the whole effect of the word, very well written****kahpot

Changing a dog's name is clearly understandable if the previous name is associated with bad experiences. I grew up with many dogs, and tone of voice means everything. I posted a dog story and told how my tone of voice made Spot, one of our dogs, listen and obey my wishes.
FanStorian, w.j.debi is writing a story about horses. To my surprise, horses also respond to tone of voice.
You always have interesting posts. Thanks for this one.

Thank you for a wonderful review, and for your thoughts. I tried to nominate you as a reviewer but I am sorry it seems I have already used up my quota. I am so glad you enjoy my writing.

I love your story! How profound and yet simple. And that's why God cares about our names and will give us new names in Heaven. Names were so important in the Bible, too. What a great message!

I wondered if anyone might think of that. So thank you! Perhaps there is more significance in a name than even we humans are aware of. Thanks so much for reviewing.

Animals respond to my wife and daughters very well indeed, they will attach themselves and readjust very quickly, my younger daughter has been raising a Rottweiler pup, who is now a juvenile dog with boundless energy, if one raises a dog from puppyhood with love they are incredibly we balanced, we've been looking after her for three weeks while Catherine is on holiday, our Moodle (5kg) and Cinta, 45kg, got on incredibly well, immediately formed a pack, with the Moodle as leader, Lucky was sad when Cinta went home, well done, blessings Roy

What a great idea. By giving the dog a new name, it becomes a new creature and has a second chance at life dropping the life associated with the old name. Simple, but powerful. Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you very much Debi. I appreciate your review. I have since heard that there is research to validate this anecdotal evidence, and a few readers have had the same positive experience with frightened pets from a harsh previous background.

This is an excellent story and it makes I enjoyed reading it. Your presentation is very good, too. You also use descriptive sense words and colorful imagery that draw in a reader. Many readers will relate.
Best wishes!

Oh my goodness! What a simple solution this seems to be. I will immediately tell my neighbor, who adopted an abused dog over a year ago and it still seems afraid in public settings especially. I wonder if this would work, or if she's too old.
I have a cat whose name I changed when she was two and she took to it immediately. Had no need to change my other cat's name, as he was never abused, just passed around.
Thank you for sharing this solution that seems so simple. No matter how kind you are to an animal, I can understand that it may hold onto that association.

I am sure it depends on the dog and the person, but it is certainly worth a try, even for an older dog. It may have been attacked by another dog in public, so that might be more difficult, unless she can drive it to a different area, and offer a new start for outdoor walks.
I hope it works for your friend. Thank you so much for reviewing.

Your piece should be a must for people who are adopting mistreated dogs. I would have never thought of renaming a dog, but it makes a lot of sense.

Me too. I was quite amazed at her little story, but then the more I thought about it, the more sense it made, and yes, it's so simple. If it even helps one or two dogs to get a new start, it's worth sharing. It's certainly worth trying, as there's nothing to lose. Thanks so much for reviewing.

Very interesting! I didn't know this, but maybe that's why I've always had success with strays. Not knowing their names, I gave them new ones. Everyone thinks I'm the whisperer of all species, but maybe that's the key. Thanks, Wendy!

Thank you very much. It may well be the key. New name plus much love gives a new start in life. Thanks so much for looking after so many previous lives and giving them love and happiness.

This is an amazing post Wendy. You are right, every time the dog heard its name he thought he was in trouble! Whoever named a dog Crank Wendy? I am glad you changed the dogs name to Sunny, it suits him much better and even when you become a dog trainer you can always learn something new from someone else. This is such an endearing story Wendy, you touched me with these words here, love Dolly x x x
