Debbie, This is very interesting and very well written about this lady. You used great descriptive and truthful words. My grandmother wrote a Christian song many years ago titled The Darkest House is Just Before the Dawn. I loved that song as it is so true! Thank you for sharing. love and blessings, Teri

Hi Debbie,
This is a well penned ode to this emotional and compassionate writer as you stated. She used her grief to inspire her and to help her grow, which is healthy. Although it seems depression stayed with her but she found times of light.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Have a great day.
Joan

Thank you so much, Joan for your kind review and comments! Your thoughts about this amazing lady are spot-on. Could I ask if the video of Winds of Fate showed up on the post? I've been having problems:( Take care Debbie

Good morning, Debbie,
What a fascinating individual who you have brought to my attention in an exceptionally well-crafted poetic offering. I must admit, that this is the first time I have read Ella Wheeler Wilcox.
I appreciate how you have woven snippets of her work throughout your poem as well as your Author's Notes which give the reader a deeper understanding of the Ella, her life, and her work.

Much enjoyed and appreciated,
Thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much, Diane, for this wonderful review! I'm so honoured by it. She was a truly amazing woman, born ahead of the times in much of her thinking and deeply passionate about people, animals and nature. Her poem on animal cruelty (Voice of the Voiceless - beautifully read on YouTube) cuts to the quick. Could I ask if the video Winds of Fate showed up on the post? I've been having problems:( Take care Debbie

No, Debbie, your video does not appear on your posting. There is a noticeable blank area... I am so sorry! Gremlins!

Thank you very much for introducing me to this extra ordinary person .She seems extraordinary as a poet and as a human .what she wrote about pain is very true..
The quoted verse reminds me of Shelly's lines
'our sweetest songs are those that tell of saddest thought'(To a Skylark.Shelly)

Thank you so much for your kind review and interesting thoughts, all deeply appreciated! That quote sums up much of her work. She strongly believed in being cheery and seeing the best despite underlying sadness. Could I ask if the video was showing below the verse? Take care Debbie

Oh gosh, as I sit here early Monday morning with lousy cold, I read your amazing poem. Your gift for the absolute smooth reading is certainly not average.
It beckons me to write more and write better.
This might be my very most favourite poem of yours thus far.
It pulled at my heartstrings..making me cry....
Thank you,
Lisa, still in Spain

Dear Lisa, thank you so much for this! I deeply value your kind review and thoughts. She was a truly amazing lady, ahead of her time, who spoke passionately about the best of life, despite her own underlying sadness. She also fought against animal cruelty and her verse which you can find on YouTube called Voice of the Voiceless will definitely have you in tears. Take care Debbie

Isn't it amazing to find a poetess from the past that is relatable...
    Love it,

Absolutely and we're talking about over 100 years ago. Could I ask you - was the video still under the verse. I'm having a hell of a job getting it to stay there as it should have gone under the notes and now I can't fix it and I have this big block of background colour underneath...

I saw the video so it was there...

Drives me nuts on this site when there are issues..
For example my newest post has no image on my portfolio. It does if you tape on it.
The only way to fix it s to go in an redo the whole thing.
I have done that before and it took forever.
So I will not be doing that again..hopefully people who want to read my work will click on it.

Wow another excellent poem about a poet, who has experienced deep grief, and loss and confusion. I didn't know she wrote those words in your second stanza. Well researched and thoughtfully composed. You are gifted in this area!

Note to the empath...
"Observe, don't absorb."
Caught that one on social media and it has helped me greatly to balance my life.
This is stunning Debbie and thank you for the fascinating notes! I shall certainly check out the ones you've mentioned here.
So much of your work deserves exceptional ratings but all the great writers on this site could suck them out in one day. I try to save one or two for somone I see has improved over time, or just happens to knock one one out of the park that day. Lol. All of your success. pretty much exceptional Debbie and I wish you continued success!

You deserve that extra str for opening our eyes to the life and works of a much-neglected poet. Thank you so much! There is so much to tell about her, yet your words flowed so well and never seemed forced. Your notes were very welcomed.

Thank you so much, Jim, for this exceptional review which I greatly appreciate! She was an amazing woman, I think, ahead of her time and so driven to make the very best of her experiences for herself and others despite that underlying sadness and sense of loss. Her poem about animal cruelty (Voice of the Voiceless) cuts to the quick. Take care Debbie

Beautiful words and an honorable tribute. There isn't anything I can add to this but you just have a way of using your poetry to capture life itself and that is a talent hard to come by. Nicely done!
