As a horse lover, you have me hooked on this story. The writing creates a visual in the mind of the reader, and the dialogue with the horses completes the image. Keep writing, and I will keep reading.

I like your story debi. Love the picture. I love horses and it sounds as though you do too. You seem to know what you are writing about because you are doing an excellent job. Well done, Dear. Nancy:)

I'm really enjoying this, debi. I love how each of the horses has its own personality and how different they are from each other. Ava certainly seems to understand these horses and knows how to treat each one as a unique individual. And she doesn't just rush ahead with any old name but considers each one carefully.

Will she be just as sensitive with the goat? I'll bet she will. - Jim

I have really enjoyed reading this even though I know nothing about horses.
Besides, I was wondering what exactly a flake was in this context.
I loved the one-sided (almost one-sided, the animals also did their bit) dialogues, the great use of the first person and your sense of humour.
Thanks for sharing.
BTW, I love the Einstein quote. My three kids are really bright, so maybe I had something to do with that. LOL

This is a delightful chapter to read. As ever, your passion and respect for horses shines through and your understanding of them gives your writing much weight for the reader. Your prose reads flawlessly and has energy and great descriptive detail. Well done! Debbie

Good work - the writing and the horse work (smiley face here)
I expected some tension - maybe the elevator not working leaving us to wonder how you would negotiate the horse's freedom.
Best wishes.

    Hi Wayne Fowler,
Yes, Ava got off easy with this one. She still has another horse and a goat to go.

Another excellent part of your story. I'm enjoying reading about these horses becoming free. The dialogues you have with the horses are how I talk with our animals too.

The story is related and authentic, even if the plot is non fiction, you write in a way where the reader is rooting for you and the horses.

Best wishes!

Alexandra

    Hi Alexandra,
Thank you for your kind comments about the writing and for letting me know how you communicate with your animals. It is fiction. I've never been on a ship or an island.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

First of all, what a beautiful image you've chosen to go with your story. Look at the muscular definition on that horse!

I just love the way you're telling this story, Debi. Taking the horses one at a time, we get to know them. I love the way your narrator speaks to them, her calm and experienced touch relaxes the reader as well as the horses. Of course, conflict must surely be on the horizon.

Another flawlessly written chapter.

I'm really enjoying this and look forward to horse #4:-)

Woohoo! So glad to be returned to this lovely story. This one was a walk in the park, or in the ship. I await the name with bated breath. Angel is my tip. Love the conversations you maintain with the animals.
