hahahaha! Thunder will do that to a body! This is a cute story, with an everyman feeling to it. It's good to see your face again, my dear ageless friend. It's not fair! LOL. I've been away for a few weeks. Yours is a good intro back to reviewing! Hope you are well.
Jay.

I am as well as any 80 year old about to celebrate 50 years of marriage to the same woman can be. Frankly I cannot believe that she has not asked for a divorce or tried to hurt me over all these years.

Hang onto that woman, Nolan!

Heh heh, I admire the fact that you can have inspiration such as this, the various folk that have such inspired revelation, talks of a God who is creative, of course we are made in His image, well done, blessings Roy

Aw, the poor boy had literally lived out that expression.I must say he showed great control of himself and the situation after the event. I can only imagine his parents faces. Great entry. Good luck. Ulla:)))

Thank you so much. I am greatly encouraged by the positive response to this story.
-
And with good reason. :)))

Perhaps you should keep Jack away from Florida for awhile. We sometimes get roaring thunder and brilliant, slashing lightning like I've never experienced! Anyhow, it was a cute little story and one all parents can relate to.

Thank you. Personally, I would be more wary of the alligators than lightning.
-
On my first trip to Florida, my niece hired a boat to tour a lake and show us alligators. My daughter was on the dock. She came over to us and the next second a huge alligator crawled up to her spot.

Yikes! That's it, vacation is over. Let's go home right now!
-
That was one day I really thanked God!

Oh, Nomi, how unfortunate - but most of us have probably had that experience once in our lives. Except now I am old enough, I don't need thunder or lightning to prompt the problem!
Very good use of your hundred words; nothing seemed contrived or cut down - so it read very naturally, including the embarrassment and sensible solution which Jack finds.
Good picture, telling parents to STOP and come no closer - I have to say that it's not that simple at the end of a long drive - far from a bathroom!
Best wishes, Paul

Welcome Nomi.
Thanks for your piece.

Indeed. This could have been me or you or someone dear, especially back in the fifties before puberty set in. There was a monster beneath the bed and in the closet skeletons or the walking dead. nice entry. Good luck.

Thank you. I suspect that like me, poetry just comes to us naturally, even when we are not looking to rhyme, we just do.

At times, for sure. I can/could, once upon a time dance. It takes rhythm. I also glid (sic) playing b-ball.
Thanks

This is so true and you've conveyed it well in this succinct 100 word flash. We can be so squeamish and coy about these things but, at the end of the day, we're only human with very basic bodily functions - which sometimes take us by surprise! Apologies for not seeing this post sooner. I'm going to ensure that it's not such a hit and miss exercise next time! Good luck, Nomi! Debbie. PS I particularly thought you might be interested when I wrote the verse Stephen Lawrence (no longer promoted). Please don't think for one minute you need to review it but I would dearly welcome any single comment.

Hi there,
Well, it's such a common saying that it must have come from somewhere. Poor little fella. Mind you, these days, Jack could be 30 and still living with mum & dad...
You did a good job with this and it flows (pardon the expression) well.
All the best

Thank you. It is an absolute truth that no one can predict how our bodies will react to a sudden bit of fright that comes out of nowhere.

The story is powerful and emotional, with a realistic tone that resonates in today's world. The descriptive and fluid narrative captivates readers, drawing them into the story.
I really enjoyed reading.
Good luck with the contest.
