I think it is a wonderful idea. As you point out, the children should learn the stories of the first nations peoples and such a good one this is. Uncle Ed is doing a great service. Hopefully, years from now at least of few of those children will still have their goanna and share the stories they have heard.
I bet Uncle Ed has already started on his project for next year.

Thank you very much. Yes, he probably has! I hope the children will always remember the story, and the care and preparation it represents.

Wow. What an amazing story of an amazing person doing a wonderful gesture for an entire school. And not just once.

They should put a plaque of recognition on the schools corridor in his honor.

Nicely written.

Yes, a plaque of recognition in the Assembly Hall would be a great idea. Thank you for such a positive review!

I beg to differ, Wendy, when you say Uncle Ed will never make a difference. He may do so through one of the children he has touched with his stories and his kindnesses.

I'm sure the school administration knows who he is, if you really wanted to know. But I guess that doesn't really matter, does it. Only that he takes the time to teach his culture to others. And young ears are eager to learn about new things, unlike older ears.

This was such a touching story. I really enjoyed it.

Thank you Pam! And you are right - one never knows what a difference he is making, or the ripple effects from his humble caring gift to these children. We should all take note of his attitude.
    Many thanks.

That is a tremendous act of kindness by this man, whether young or old, giving things to the children that would cost one way or another, not only materially, but the most valuable gift of all...time, the one thing we can't redeem, but if one loves giving, then very rewarding indeed, well done Wendy thanks for sharing, blessings Roy

Uncle Ed may not go down in history, but he will live in the hearts of about 400 children. This was well told and is a great reminder that legends of early ancestors are part of our history.

Thank God for all the Uncle Ed's in this world. The native Americans in our country went through similar treatment as your aborigines. What was done to these people was terrible. I may post a poem I wrote about this.

Thank you very much Paul. Yes, whites have a certain arrogance about denigrating worthwhile attitudes and value systems simply because of their source. Themore primitive cultures cared for the environment much better than we do as a society, and we could learn a lot from them if we were willing. Would love to see your poem.

Thank you for sharing Uncle Ed with us. I'm happy he's part of the children's lives at school. We all need to be more exposed to other traditions and customs. I'm in favor of it. I enjoyed reading.

Thank you, Wendy G.
And thank you Uncle Ed.
I agree with you 100%.
It's too bad, though, that you felt the need to defend the school's tolerance of their accepting Uncle Ed and his stories. as you clearly state, the school teaches all sorts of wacky folklore. We shouldn't have to go to such lengths anticipating the extremists' objections.
Bless you.

Thank you very much, Wayne. I got a scathing review for another biography about an Aboriginal man, saying I was promoting racism by mentioning his race (which was integral to the story of his achievements, courage and grace despite obvious prejudice.) As I told the reviewer, I will continue to write of what I think is important. Thank you for your on-going support and for this encouraging review.

This is a wonderful story about someone who unselfishly gave his time to the children without expecting any reward, this encourage children to be generous to others, and as you say Uncle Ed deserves this recognition as he is touching other lives with his generosity, much enjoyed Wendy, we meet few people like this these days, although they do exist, love Dolly x
