Beautiful story and beautiful dog. Sounds like a wonderful dog. The last line of the poem was a real tearjerker. So heartfelt. Well done. I didn't know that some Irish setters are black

It was meant to be that a dog came into your home, and the fact that the dad found it sealed the deal. Funny how things work out. I like that Rascal knew it wasn't the usual bus. What a wonderful little guy.

A beautiful poem. I enjoyed reading. Their daddy was an old softie. it is a well-written poem in story form.
When dogs go to the Rainbow Bridge, they leave their pawprints in their family's hearts forever.
Beautiful story.
Good luck in the contest.

A beautiful story in a poem, and it was wonderful that your father took the time nd trouble to rescue the poor puppy who became a much-loved family pet. Best wishes for your entry.

What a beautiful pup and an emotional journey captured in your fine verse. You have rhymed it well for the contest and this true roller-coaster story of happiness and heartbreak has been a magical read. Thanks for sharing and good luck! Debbie

Having to say goodbye is the worst part of owning a dog. I think it's funny that the puppy melted your dad's heart first. It's like they know. This was a cute true story in a poem. Good luck in the contest. Gretchen

This is so beautifully written and so moving.
I used to be like your husband. I didn't get my daughter a dog till she finished school because her last course before uni was quite tough due to ill health and bullying.
Five years ago, I adopted a cat that some kids found by the pool and now my youngest son loves him to death and vice versa.
When my daughter left home in September, I felt bereft without Becka (her Westie), so I convinced my husband to get another Westie. He's adorable, playful and extremely loving. And that makes him very lucky: yesterday he ate a book cover and today he's done the same again. If I didn't love him so much I'd give him up for adoption. Just kidding. I'd never do that.
Good luck in the contest, you deserve it.

nicely done narrative poem about rescuing a dog who ends up rescuing the entire family. A nice story, nice rhyming scheme not forced rhyming and a nice narrative

That would be awesome.
Do you like a little more humor as I know you aren't as much into spiritual?
-
Jake, I have to rethink that, but thank you for your sweet offer

A sweet and heartfelt story in the rhyming poem. Pets do become part of the family and Rascal certainly did that.
I enjoyed reading your well written poem.
Blessings

Hi
This shows fate had a different idea than Dad did. Rascal was meant for your family.
Sorry for your loss
Good luck with the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a great day
