A nice tribute. Well written. Good formatting.
Now tell us, did Kelly pass beyond the veil, but not if the scabs will fall off. We needn't know. ijuuguyfygifj

    Thank you, Tom!

    Yes, she passed away
July 4th 2015. After a long battle with addiction.

This is a wonderful dedication to your sister as well as a reminder to not take life for granted. It brought tears to my eyes, as I'm sure it will to many others. You sister sounds like a precious soul.

This was heartbreaking. I'm so sorry you had to go through this. The bonds of family may get stretched thin but I don't believe they ever go away. As sad as it is, it's nice that you can remember those feelings that day. Thank you for sharing this. Gretchen

What a loving memorial poem, laced within "Independence Day" themes and aching with loss for your departed sister, Kelly. This is whispered grief, and as eloquent as the global ache held in a solitary tear...

Beautiful writing. I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope writing this beautiful piece gives you some sense of respite...

Karenina, thank you so much for your kind words.

Writing has accomplished precisely that. When she died, I temporarily abandoned writing. I was trapped in a state of uninspiration, most likely because it was something we always did together (mostly music).

This site and encountering writers like yourself has genuinely been a gift. The cathartic process and the connections forged through it have proven to be something I desperately needed.

Thank you so much for your always appreciated time and feedback xoxoxo

I"m so glad to read that writing does for you what it does for me. I must say your poem truly brought tears to my eyes. This is why so many of us here feel like a family. We rally around one another in hard times. Kelly must be smiling down to see you are here on FanStory and writing about her!

Jessica lots of imagery in this piece. Your hands covering her little ears and vice versa, and attached at the hip. The black Jetta. I can visualize the scene now.
I also liked "You've gone beyond the fireworks to illuminate the Heavens." There is no one way to describe relationships between sisters.

What a moving and loving sentiment: " Like always
My hands covered your little ears
And your little hands covered mine". It certainly is the passionate relationship between two persons.

The July fourth is definitely a day to remember our country. Firework celebration is expected year after year.

Thanks for sharing such a lovely poem

Ugh. I'm so sorry that you had to go through this. But you turned your lemons to lemonade with this luminous poem that says so much yet does not do so with a lugubrious edge whatsoever. The ache comes through loud and clear in its understatement.

Sending you nothing but love. Fabulous poem. xo

Oh gosh Jessica,
I feel that you had a sister that passed???
Because of.......
I too have a much younger sister who survived all the mess....and I too held cupped my hands over her ears...
Really a heart warming Free Form poem.
