A lovely piece of further autobiographical writing. This house sounds idyllic. Forty-three! A mere slip of a thing. I'm 59 and we are expecting our next child. So exciting! Life goes on, even in retirement.

Congratualtions, as long as you've got the funds to keep things running smoothly if you desire to retire, go for it. Thanks for the review.

Dear Beth, your posts are always so full and interesting and keep me engaged until the end which always end on a note of keen anticipation for the next! Firstly how wonderful about the house and I can easily understand how you always imagined it was meant to be yours. That sad death and your son's conscience cleverly intercedes with those childhood anxieties that so many parents face and which give your post another dimension. And then the pregnancy and Evan's uncertainty.... You had so much going on here I can hardly keep up:) Personally in para starting "We were taken ... - I'd say further rather than farther (far, further, farthest): para starting We hadn't been in our new house.... we continue(d) to be careful. This is another excellent chapter, Beth. Thanks for sharing. Debbie

Thank you Debbie, I really appreciate your excellent review and comments. Thank for pointing out the past tense I missed. I actually had written further but someone suggested I change it to farther which they said had to do more with distance. I read about it and either seemed okay but I'm used to saying further.

How wonderful that you were able to buy that house! God is good. My son-in-law became a father at 51, and is loving fatherhood, and I am sure Evan was able to enjoy the new baby just as much as the previous three. Your story is quite fascinating, and written very well.

Evan did love the new baby even if he did wonder if this was going to prevent his dream of an early retirement. She is a joy to be around now but she wasn't so eary to get past those teen years.

You were so blessed getting the house you wanted. My youngest son was 42 when his youngest was born. It happens. She's the light of his life. How did Christi take it when they arrived?

Thanks for the review. Christi believed I had deliberately set out to ruin her life by having a baby to take her place.

Call it woman's intuition, but you were right
about the house, Beth. I'm happy it worked
out they way it did. It sounded like you got a
great deal on a nice house. Your story flowed
well with great details. What a cliff hanger you
left readers. Your family stories are always
well written and interesting.

I remember a lot of this post - including the dog that you kept as part of the house. I hope the new dog owners cooked rice for him. Lol.
You always seem to have that sixth sense so I wasn't surprised that the house you knew was perfect became available at the right time. Thanks for sharing.

You have a very good memory. I hope Blackie ended up having a good life in the country. He was sweet dog that didn't like bicycles or dog food.
I just could believe someone else was going to buy the house I was so sure was mine. I really appreciate the review.

Sharing your family life is interesting. I have really enjoyed reading your work. We have so much in common concerning our lives and children. Keep it coming.

Parallel paths again. I am nine plus years my wife's age, and I was thirty nine when we adopted our first child. WHen we asked when we could apply for a second, the agency let us know that couldn't be as their rules would not allow a placement to anyone over forty, thus better guaranteeing both parents would be on duty through college.
Two years later we moved to NC and the same agency came to us asking if we were interested in a second. I reminded my age and the response said that was Virginai policy not NC. Nearly three years they found a match, now I saw my retirement being forestalled. It wasn't.
I was the #1 sales rep in the Carolinas for 14 years, and stepped away at fifty-eight.

My husband retired at 56 so he didn't let it stop him either. Thanks for the review and sharing a bit of your own experience.

Quite nice. Well written. Good work.
Great story about getting the house.
I wonder if Blackie chased bicycles for the previous owner.
I know I used to hate getting chased and snapped at by dogs when I was a kid.
Best wishes.

Thanks Wayne. I'm sure Blackie was getting away with biting bicyclers before we arrived. He was an outdoor dog with no fenced yard.

Lots of motion in this chapter, Beth! It started with you finding that perfect house, and getting it in spite of all odds. How fortunate.
I'm sure your son felt lots of remorse over his wishes. That would have been hard.
Surprise, surprise on that new baby! How exciting was that? Okay, maybe a mixed blessing, lol!
Take care,
Rhonda

Thank you Rhonda. I'm happy we had that last child but she did create a few problems growing up.
