That is a so simple it simply flies at you. I do like this one, it has the two lines that give us the picture, and the third line finishes it nicely. Very well done! :)) Sandra xx

Good morning, Steve!
What is stunning - and deeply appreciated - about your haiku is that it could easily be read two ways: as is, or with the last line being first and "fragile memories" serving as the satori - but at the end...
Delightful and deeply resonating with me...

Thank you for sharing,
diane

    Thanks, Diane.
Yes, tossed a coin about switching first and last lines.
Looks like the committee liked it this way around too!

You have a well-done haiku. The presentation, the photograph, the font, and the style with its offset lines are excellent graphics that enhance the poem. The imagery is clear and inviting. Terry.

Very interesting theme. The poem reveals the fragility and beauty of the most tiny creatures God has made. The word choice is judicious, such as : flutters on frail wings...
Great job!

Hi Steve!

The black and white presentation on this piece is striking... the words structured to flit like the moth across the page. As always, your form and presentation are impeccable.

Good luck in the contest!

Hi, Kim. Thanks for the kind words. Hope all goes well with you and yours. Alaska, right? How's the weather up there? Seems mainland US is copping it at the moment.

Winter is trying her best to hang on herein Alaska. Our days are getting longer and it is warming up, but still spitting a little bit of snow each week. We are hoping it will get to seriously melting soon! Hope your family is well, too.

This is lovely. Yes, memories can be fragile, especially when you get older. Comparing them to a moths wings is very appropriate, they are indeed, fragile creatures. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Boogie. Not my favourite form, but I do enjoy playing around with the possibilities when I can find a suitable theme. This one seems to work.

This haiku is lovely.

You've captured the essence of fragility and memories quite masterfully in just three lines.

I especially appreciated your clever use of juxtaposition in lines 1 and 3 and alliteration in line 2.

"still dark" adds a stunning layer of depth.

You've written an exceptional haiku.

Jessica, many thanks for the kind words in your fine review and the extra shiny star.

You'll have to educate this old fella on what <3 represents at the end of your review. You don't want to know what that 3 looks like when tipped on its side as I try to interpret it!

Steve, I'm cracking up. The intention is for it to look like a... Heart! It?s meant to be viewed tipped on it's side- which makes this all the more amusing lol I can now see it does look like something else... other than what I intended... oops.

This is gorgeous--both the photograph and the haiku. We used to have a lot of moths here. Unfortunately, like other insects (except for blackflies, mosquitoes and gnats, of which we still have plenty) most of them are gone too. Sign of the times, I guess.

Mary. thanks for the kind words. We still have plenty of moths here. Another reviewer tells me they are more essential than bees for our continued existence on this planet. I have to admit I used the moth more to represent the fragility of memory than as a heroic environmental warrior!

You are welcome. I'm not sure I agree that moths are more essential than bees but I do worry about the future of out planet. Today, I read that we're losing more and more bird species.
