I used to live in Pennsylvania. When I did, I drove a Jeep Cherokee so I didn't get stuck in any of the holes in the roads. I could always drop it into 4WD and haul out of the big ones.

John Denver was an adventurous man and he would've appreciated the humorous take poet Earl Corp does to his American classic, "Country Roads." However, roads, in some sense, are the whole/hole? problem in the relyricized version the poet presents us. He sings "Potholed Roads"as an unhappy report about the condition of the Pennsylvania's roads. Mr. Corp picked his words and syllables well to metrically mimic the melody of John Denver's unforgettable song.

Earl, I love it for this contest! I have not seen all the entries, but I really like what you did with Mr. Denver's song. Good luck in the contest. Your creativity of word choice is excellent. Good job. Terry.

I've enjoyed the various entries I've seen in this contest and of course you can't go wrong with a well-loved John Denver song as the basis for your poem.
Where Denver's song is full of praise, your, more realistically, aims a few arrows at the dilapidated infrastructure of Pennsylvania, adding another level to the meaning.
Good luck in the contest.

Well you've certainly described a glim picture here. I liked how you re-wrote the song about Pennsylvania, and some of the issues the state is having with employment and poverty, and then there are the potholes. It was a good entry into the contest.

This is a good rewrite of Country Roads by John Denver. One of his most famous songs. It could be written about some other for syllable states because all have potholes and unemployment. I can understand the use of disillusioned as an adjective for your mental state but it doesn't fit the song because mountain goes there. So a two syllable word show go there, maybe worried,
Keep writing and stay healthy
Good luck in the contest.
Happy Holidays.

This is a good poem. You have chosen a good song to rewrite.
"Take me home
To the place I belong," always hits people's heart. Home is our roots of growing up. It can bring back memories of emotional moments.
I have lived in Pennsylvania before. I like it.
Thank you for sharing this piece of good work with us.
Good luck to your contest.

What seems to be a century ago is still fresh in my mind. Driving my new Corvette in '68 toward NYC, I hit a pothole on the Pa., Turnpike that was so large I exited from it in Shanghi, or it seemed. My golf filling in #28 tooth fell out and a prospector in Australia found it.

I enjoyed reading this piece. It's good wry humor. I can feel the pent up frustration of your experience as well. Nicely done. Small typo in the last "disillusioned".

I sang your clever lyrics as I listened to John Denver. I had to laugh out loud as I read. The funniest line was, "Drivin' down the road, My wheel alignment's shot." I know those roads. I'm from Pennsylvania and truly enjoyed your songwriting skills. Best wishes in the contest.
