This is very helpful. The examples you give are fashioned by a true teacher, from one teacher to another. Here's an ie, : "Not only does the antagonist provide tension and conflict, they can also help to create a stronger sense of empathy for the main character by highlighting their resilience, strength and determination." This is a good point. Well done. This should be published in a journal.

It's rather amazing how you've placed these essential characters in a story, whoever that story, and identifying those characters is not as clear cut as one may think. It's very clear by the way you've laid out those characteristics, but one still needs to work out the role, also they can change from antagonist to protagonist also, and vice versa, well done G, blessings Roy

Thank you for taking time to share and clarify what an antagonist and villain are. I am curious can an antagonist also come from within a protagonist. Just curious.

This was great as always, and really helpful. Until I hit the words In conclusion. I don't watch films, and I haven't read the book 'American Psycho.' So now I have a lot of work in front of me. Not a complaint - I've never been afraid of hard work, and I was born to learn. Thanks for th pointers Kate xx

I'm going to have to sort through this one and write your examples and perhaps some of my own, into my Gareth file. This is a great addition to my collection, and needed if I'm going to write a series of Bessie's detective stories. You're being so helpful, Gareth, and I'm sure there are quite a few on here who value these handy tips. Thanks, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Thank you, for this clear and simple to understand lesson for writers. I know they are grateful. Then there are antagonist, like myself with a gift. I piss people off without trying. Blessings, Barbara. xo
