It sounds like your had an wonderful childhood. I had a good one too. But we didn't have an attic. Mom read to me as a child but I my playtime was games I invented. On rainy days, Mom would drape blankets over chairs and make me what she called a rainy-day tent.

Oh, yes. I made tents with my boys and later with grandchildren. What fun! When I was little, we lived in an antebellum home with a proper attic.

Yvonne,
This is a simply rhymes poem which gives a strong image of the fun this family playing up in the attic. It sounds wonderfully imaginative.
It is a good match for the picture this artwork.
Keep writing and stay heatlhy

Thank you. Those were great times!

No problem, Yvonne. We never had a finished attack, so it would have been dangerous with all the uncovered insulation.

I love that picture and it does dredge up memories of my granny's attic. I think that I may have to do some thinking about writing my memories about it. You have done a great job on this poem and I can picture your fun. Great job.

Thank you. They were great times.

It was really good for children to use their imaginations and create their own fun. Toddlers today still enjoy even just playing with saucepan lids and spoons (noisy!!) or cardboard boxes. Or clothespins. Your poem is very nostalgic for simpler times and happy memories. Lovely writing! Very enjoyable to read.

Thank you. I feel sorry that children today won't know the fun of those simpler times.

Attics are often inaccessible in houses in England and it is odd to think we have places where we keep junk in our houses but your memories here are golden about times spent playing with all those old clothes and ancient artefacts, happy memories, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Thank you. At the time, we lived in an antebellum house with a huge attic.

Hello Yvonne.
In days of yore, kids did not play with their Nintendo, Xbox, PlayStation, or smart phone. When it was cloudy or raining outside, I would be in the house with the paper tablet my grandmother gave me and I would be writing poems and stories. When it was sunshiny, I would be outside chasing a ball, riding a bike, taking a hike in the woods, or looking for an outhouse to push over.
It's not fun anymore like it used to be.

You are so right. I raised my boys the way I was raised, so they know the fun of those simpler times. Children today don't.

So true.

This lovely, descriptive poem is nostalgia at its best. You have conveyed a moving message about the pleasure of family time together, doing fulfilling things that don't cost a penny.

wow - a poem to take the reader back in time to a more 'sane', world, so to speak, where real childhood activities happened and childrens' imaginations were free to soar - just loved the sense of reminiscence and the super cute pic

What awesome memories you shared in your club response, Yvonne. Your words flow smoothly with excellent rhymes and create great imagery. I could see you and your mom, then dad later having a super time. Those kind of times create memories that one never forgets. I love the idea of playing dress up or just quietly listening to the sound of rain on the roof. You would be so near the roof, I imagine the sound is one you'll never forget. The use of one's imagination on those Sundays was an awesome way to spend time before the digital age where everyone is tied to their devices. Your words pair perfectly with the picture.
Thanks for participating.
Respectfully, Jan
