You certainly make a case for Ancestry membership. I gave mine up after a while, as they kept focussing on one great-grandmother to the exclusion of many others. However, your searches obviously paid off with some fascinating information
about where your antecedants came from and also a photograph of your great-grandfather. well done. Excellent story. Top marks cheers Cass

Thank you so much for a great review and comments. I think a lot of people don't get the full value of having their DNA done by not starting a searchable tree on Ancestry because without it you don't learn a lot. I started out with a handful of people and there is over 10,000 relatives and families of relatives in my data base. I learned some many people I grew up around and who went to school with me were cousins that I didn't even realize I was related to. I'm fairly close kin to the Lay who had Lay's potato chips and the Walton of Walmart. Just interesting but no money in my pocket. LOL Thanks for the six stars.

This is a great article, and I hope Ancestry.com are paying you well for the free advertising! :-) I can trace my family back through a couple of generations, and I confess I've been tempted several times to delve further on a site like Ancestry. Having read your excellent piece, the urge is upon me again.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. I was hoping this would inspire people to do this. Actually, I seriously doubt if Ancestry would pay for the advertising, but my membership is due to be renewed. It might be worth letting them read this. LOL

This is well-written and should encourage many readers to approach genealogy studies to learn more about their family histories. You have come up with a lot of new information, and links to unknown relatives - interesting.

Yes indeed, I think following family trees is a fascinating pursuit, but somehow I think we won't find Royal blood, I think we would like to find it, but somehow I doubt, I know that some present royal family members are not giving their kids titles because of the troubles attached to it, Princess Anne is a good example, as with Prince Harry. That's always the problem with marrying an commoner. After all hereditary titles were endowed by favour, all royal lines would have started by military might. Not goodness. Most die out. Beautifully written, blessings Roy
Typo : And they (were) usually were drunk...2: DNA profiling (begin) began?

Thank you so much for the review and comments. Some of the members of many royal families had to flee the their native country to avoid beheading or imprisonment. A lot of lines in this country lead to them. Most had money when they came here, I think they sent all the convicts to Australia. LOL Just kidding.

No, you?re right, but I?m British by birth, so there! Heh heh. And my DNA is 49% Celt 49% Anglo Saxon and 1% North African, go figure, there is some obscure Abbysinnian in there.

A great story for this contest, I think it should do really well, good luck. When I retired sixteen years ago, I began a similar project. You have described in very good detail the steps to follow. I noticed in the first paragraph you had two "were" drunk "were", you might want to edit that. Really good job!
