I just can't believe that 'stiff upper lip' came from Greece! It is supposed to be true blue British!
I like to add two of my favorite Christmas riddles
What did Adam say the day before Christmas?
'it's Christmas,Eve!".
What is Santa's fear called?
"Claustrophobia'.

LOL!!! I'm going to add those to my Christmas quiz for my grandchildren! I know their parents will let out loud groans! LOL. Thank you so much, Sanku, I really appreciate those. I'm glad you enjoyed mine, and like you, I was stunned to read the 'stiff upper lip' is not true blue British! Have a brilliant Christmas, my friend, and a healthy, happy 2022. Warm hugs, Sandra xx

HI Sandra, your sooo welcome...I can't believe how long it takes mail to get where is going now...even here...things I used to send to Kristy...she would get in a few days...can now take eight, nine days...sigh...
and a lot more of it is damaged...or just not getting where it's going....
Kristy sent me a Mother's Day card...and my birthday card at the same time...both had gift cards in them...I never got one...and the other one was opened...and the gift card was gone...she said they got a new mail man...
well!! I'm going back on the roof...was 12 degrees last night..I came in to warm up....
it's 24 degrees now...much better...soooo much love...and many more hugs...xxoo

If I have anything inside a card, I send it registered post, then if it goes astray, or is opened, they have to pay me.
I am seriously worried about your card, have you not received it yet? I sent a few at the same time, and one to Australia before we went on the cruise on the 25th November. I know Kay (ausie) has received hers and I've heard from two others in the US. I hope yours hasn't gone astray, I would be most upset! And even more upset if you get frostbite on your bottom from sitting by your roof!!! xxxxx
-
and YES I found your card...I AM SO SORRY...
I hang them on the door in the living room...yours came with a few others...so I
hung them all at the same time...
I am so sorry Sandra...but you'll be glad to know...it's #1 on the first roll....and I love it...I so love snow globes...THANK YOU with all my heart my amazing friend...I was getting ready to slam the postman...so many times I have had other peoples mail in my mail box...and thought maybe that's what happen...I always deliver the ones I get...but I would guess there are people who wouldn't...he/she got lucky...I restored my long lost mind....and looked...I swear Sandra...my mind fads a bit everyday...
either there's no more room in the inn up there...or senility is setting in....
and not to worry about my frostbite bottom...
if I have to...I will just start a little fire to warm up...
Thank You beautiful girl...love xxoo
-
Oh, brilliant, I was ready to sue the British Royal mail! I'm just the same as you, hang them up. I was just worried it hadn't come and you'd think I'd forgotten you!!!! But, that is something I'd never do! More love coming your way. xxxx
-
so I guess I can put the fire out I started on the roof...OHHHH look...if you look down this whole...you can see the living room...hmmmmm...love you in bunches...xxo

I love these silly sayings and have heard them all my life. I was surprised to hear that by the skin of your teeth came from the Bible. Who would have guessed? Keep them coming.

You have found some interesting idioms to research. Tiptoe on broken glass is new to me, never heard it in Midwest US. The cracker jokes are fun ones that make more groans than chuckles.

I'm so glad you enjoyed them, Carol. I love the jokes, and I'm going to use them in a Christmas quiz after we've had our dinner. I know the kids will groan when they get the answers, but thats the fun of it, isn't it! Lol. Thanks Carol, and happy Christmas and a wonderful 2022. :)) Sandra x

I had heard all of them but this one.. 'To tiptoe on broken glass.' This one makes me squeamish to think about!
Enjoyed. Looking forward to the next installment.

These are so cute and interesting. I had no idea there were so many idioms. You must have been researching them for some time. I'll have to check out your book.

Thank you so much! It will take me the rest of my life to go through them all, lol, but I enjoy researching them. I'll be back writing my novels in January, but after finding how much people have enjoyed learning the idiom's origins, I'll keep doing those as well. I'm glad you enjoyed them. Have a wonderful Christmas and a fabulous 2022. Sandra

It's always nice to wake up and start my day off with a laugh. So, thank you! And even better yet, is for that laugh to come from such a kind and considerate person as the Sandra I haven't seen much lately. Thanks for sharing. :-)

Aw, you are such a flatterer, but I love you for it!! LOL. I'll be starting my new novel in January, and possible write some more poetry. I've been enjoying researching these idioms for Helen's book, she doesn't know what she's started!! Thanks, Ric. Have a wonderful Christmas, and let's all hope for a much better, virus free 2022. I just love your idiom offerings. Every day we encounter these teasers, use them, but never think about where they come from. Thanks for some information - some humor and some more things to use in our lexicon!
