What a great story! After all your run-ins with nasty dogs, it's amazing that you became such a lover of dogs! I'm sure King helped you forget all those bad dogs. Thank you for the recipe! I hope you changed your recipes to make them gluten-free now. Best wishes in the contest!

This sounds awesome! And it's amazing to me also, that you and Jackson were childhood (or high school?) sweethearts. It sounds absolutely scrumptious.
No baking is possible in our disaster of an apartment, but we're working on improving our lot in life. Maybe someday, we'll reach the point of baking a cake, and frosting it. I will save this article into my Bookcase, for precisely that purpose.
And by the way, I love the song; it makes me feel so good! Brings me way, way back ...

This was lovely. I am glad you won Jack's heart with all that hard work. No blind in those days I am guessing? This was a great read

powdered sugar - known as "Caster sugar" or "icing sugar??" I am guessing Down Under!

Thank you for the lovely review and generous comments. I didn?t start going blind until 2009. God spared me and allowed me some good years, a wonderful husband and marriage, and lots of children. Sending you my best today as always,

What a wonderful story! You certainly went to a lot of trouble to win his heart, and he must have been so encouraging to you! You maintained the interest throughout with the humour - I can see you trying to deal with the dog while managing the cake. I bet you weren't happy at the time, but it certainly makes for a good story now!!

What a sweet story in more ways than one, Sally. I really enjoyed reading it. The picture is so sweet. Wow! First grade boyfriend/girlfriend and look at where it led. Jack had some specific grown up tastes in his list of cakes. Your adventure with that first one was well told although a disaster not of your making. The recipe sounds scrumptious. Does hubby still like cake?
Respectfully, Jan

Such a cute story, Sally. I bet you were a pro when you finally accomplished the baking of a cake and topped it off with the frosting recipe you enclosed. I will try your recipe soon.

Thank you for this recipe, Sally. I will bookmark it. Yes indeed, cake and love do go hand in hand. I felt that as well, until my son's first birthday.
I was so proud to have made his first birthday cake. However, when I fed it to him, he choked and blew it out as it landed on my chest. From then on my baked goods were bought and those he liked.
My other sons love my baking.
