Although we tuned in a few times to check out Baldwin as Trump, and found it hilarious, I haven't watched SNL regularly for years. I can't stay up that late any more! lol. Sorry to hear that they are trying to find humour in death.

I figured most would agree that these sort of skits are NOT funny. I posted this at 11:59 p.m., having started writing it at 11:45 as the skit was in process. Thanks for the validation!

I agree with you that the TV just goes from bad to worse. We kept the licence on for the news, but that is so biaised we never watch it. The TV in our house is a dark, shadowy, silent sculpture.

The show has a huge following and a huge expectation. I for one have not been one of the followers. It does seem however that they are afraid to do skits about Biden. Or am I wrong? You are certainly right in your declaration. "There is nothing funny about murder."

Frankly, I found little to laugh at during Trump's presidency. Early on, I kept waiting for the punch line. Surely, such outrageous behavior must be leading up to a joke. No such luck.
I think SNL has fallen victim to all innovation--eventually, it gets old. Perhaps I have a low tolerance for retreads because I gave up on SNL after the first two or three seasons. Since then, the show has become a stoner's cult, and a parody of itself.
It's not the President who's to blame, but a tired formula.

SNL has not been funny for at least 25 years. In fact, the "funny" left with Phil Hartmann. Actually, I didn't even know it was still on TV. They not only fail at dark humor, they fail at all humor and everything else they pretend they're good at.

Liz,
You've written a great opinion piece on SNL...Giving a little history to let us know how and why you found it funny in the past and what has you totally
turned off now.
I like how you end with "News Flash" and the flash font is bent. Just like their humor...Good use of give it up or you will give them up.

Well, finally, someone is starting to see a side of SNL that I've been noticing since the very first few shows I ever watched. Although I've tuned in from time to time over the years to catch splotchy bits of humor wedged between boring babble, I stopped tolerating the sporadically-funny farce long ago. Thanks for sharing.

I'm a big fan of dark humor of course. I'm not a fan of SNL. I don't watch that much tv. I've probably only watched two episodes ever. But I agree with your comments here. Murder is only funny when it was deserved, and there are times it is deserved.

Yes, some people appear to believe there is no limit to how far they can take their sick humor and label it "fun". There is nothing remotely funny or respectful to the family, etc. with their skit. Smiles - Carol

I've not seen Saturday Night Live lately but I did enjoy Alex Baldwin's portrayals of Trump. I do know quite a few people in the area where I live that didn't enjoy their hero being laughed at as the fool he was. I can't imagine anything being funny about a murder trial and in seems in poor taste that they would dare go in that direction. There are still enough stupid politicians out there to mock. Surely there is no of material.
