I enjoyed reading this. I think I might be on the cusp too. Lately, I can't hear as well as I once could and when you don't hear half of what is being said, I think it makes you more introverted because you are left out of what is going on around. One to one i'm comfortable talking but get me a group where someone want shut up and I don't try to compete. I'm happy just to listen.

I am sorry about your hearing. My parents are both losing their hearing and I can see how they struggle with it. We have some odd conversations because they don't understand what I say.
Introverts are known as listeners. Extroverts sometimes don't know when to quit. Sometimes I would like to get up and leave a meeting because all they are doing is talking and they aren't getting anywhere, but it would be rude.

A wonderful essay on a fascinating subject..I would rate myself an introvert although my career required me to be outgoing and assertive.. That was difficult. Hmmmm. I wonder how many seeming extroverts are really introverts in work disguise?
You presented the facts in an agreeable and user friendly way.
Thanks for sharing Debi. Happy 2021!
Stay safe and blessed

Hi Julia,
Most introverts have to stretch themselves in the business world to fit the expectations of the extroverts. Sounds like you were successful.
Thank you for the kind comments about the writing and for the wonderful six star rating.

Being an introvert, of course I love this.
I agree with the entire piece.
I have to say that I love the fact that this
pandemic has kept everyone away.
I have never been lonely in my life, and if I
had to stay in quarantine for a year...I'd be thrilled.
LOVE THIS,
blessings...

I agree the introverts are going to weather this pandemic better than the extroverts. I have never been lonely either.
I am reminded of a man that I dated once. We saw a person sitting at a table alone eating and reading a book. His reaction was, 'How can anyone do that?' I just looked at him and shook my head because he didn't get it. If you can't be by yourself, how can you force your company on others? It didn't work out. LOL.
Thank you for your insights and for the fabulous six stars.

I SO get that!!
My husband has never understood.
I do my needlework, artwork, ect, in the kitchen. I enjoy the solitude.
My husband, who enjoys watching TV, ect, often wanders in...because he doesn't want me to be lonely.
I don't try to explain anymore after 22 years, ha ha. It's kinda sweet...but SO delusional.

Love it! I've had similar experiences.

Ha ha....I just wait them out!! Have a lovely week!!

Hello Debi.
A wonderful, interesting post.
While I don't dislike people, I do dislike crowds
with the exception of concerts, plays and movies,
where the crowd adds to the atmosphere and mutual enjoyment.
I just finished reading Mr. Penunbra's24-Hour Bookstore,
and am now reading The Lost Book of the Holy Grail.
Thought, reading, walking, hiking, rowing,
I grow more introverted all the times.
Beautiful photograph too.
Have a great, safe, quiet day.

Hi Robert,
You do sound like an introvert. I didn't mention all their traits, but they do enjoy groups if they are comfortable. They sometimes even step up to be the entertainment if they are in an atmosphere they like.
Those books sound interesting. I like anything about the knights of the Round Table so I may have to look up that one about the Holy Grail.
Thanks for the fantastic review and the six stars.

This is a very well written piece about introverts. I am like you, on the cusp. I love being alone, I am never lonely, but I welcome being with others on various occasions. The part about being alone could also involve the reason. The reason being sometimes we just aren't up to conversation. Not always, but sometimes. Enjoy the day.

Hi Ralf,
Thank you for the encouraging comments about the writing. I agree with you, I am never lonely. Extroverts don't seem to comprehend how that is possible. I think we have the advantage.
Have a wonderful 2021.

This is a wonderful - and informative - essay, with a clever ending. The former journalist in me appreciates that you've laid out so much information in a well-written and straightforward manner. The former speechwriter in me appreciates the 'call to action' which motivates the reader. The wanna be writer in me appreciates the way you tied it all up at the end.
Well done.

Well, I'm glad to know about National Introvert Day. This was a new one to me, but we have so many days already. How handy that it's also Science Fiction Day. Since I would put myself in the "introvert" category, I'm glad you included that list of famous introverts. Hello, Bill Gates! I'm like you. You did an excellent job of relating the origins of the day and explaining what introverts are like. Good suggestions for how to spend the day. I could always watch "Dead Poet's Society." Interesting subject, and you develop it in interesting fashion. Happy New Year. judi

Introverts Celebrate
World Introvert Day
w.j.debi how I wish give you a six rating why us introverts should celebrate.
Smiles to where you said include me--
As a group, writers tend to be more introverted. Good thing since writing requires time alone. Also, two introverts can be alone together and be perfectly content not to say a word for hours.
My husband and I are happy when we are alone; this way we have learned to Understand each other for sixty-six years.

Our two daughters are poles apart, the elder, outgoing, gifted and quite selfless, and an over achiever, the younger, quiet, (but not with us) prefers her own home, they are a perfect match, each other's best friend, very rarely squabbled, the elder has always watched over her "little" sister. Thank you for this, well done, great write, blessings Roy

Dear debi, thank you so much for posting this. I am going to bookcase it and print out copies to give to all the people who think I don't like them, because I have to leave, because they tend to go on and on. I am so introverted, Meyers-Briggs rated me a "1 percenter. " a word maybe I invented, because I tested so far out on their scale.

Hi Suzanna Ray,
What a great compliment, that you would save this essay and share it. I am honored. Hopefully, it will help your extroverted friends understand you better and your need for some solitude.
I love the comment about being a one-percenter.
Enjoy the day.
