I have always hoped that if there are ghosts around us then they are there to help and guide us but after reading your piece, the very thought that they are here to torture us sent a shiver down my spine. I couldn't find any faults, royowen, an excellent piece...Jacob

I wonder if the prompt wasn't looking for Slimer or Marshmallow Man or Christmas Past, but that's not my business, just how good your poem is, and I call it excellent.

that's a neat poem. You've taken the writing prompt to the ghosts of your past and you've given them release so that your life can move on...your poems always have such a nice flow to them....easy to read and enjoy....

I never thought I'd see royowen in the a Ghost competition. Yet, by choosing the image of ghost as those things that are ugly from my past, this poem works a treat. And, of course it's Jiesus at your side helping you assuage these wraiths. Very well constructed, original in concept, and unstintingly faithful, I hope this is appreciated by voters, as it should be.

It was disqualified on a fairly minor overlooked technicality Mark, so I'll never know, thanks my friend for such a great review, blessings, Roy.

This work has reached the exceptional level

The meter and rhyme scheme become invisible as the message of freedom from the ghosts of the past comes through clearly. The connection between faith and the sluffing off of yesterday's dark hours is well made.

Learning how to let go of the past, especially if it is peppered with regret, is a process that requires practice and faith. Enjoyed your positive philosophy.
thanks for sharing. Good luck in the contest

Hi, Roy,

Indeed, our inner ghosts cane play havoc with us, no doubt, BUT, our faith can bring things back into perfect focus.

Well penned entry, my friend.

Good luck in the contest.

Cheers & Blessings

Interesting view on ghosts that haunt. At first, they're there to torture you, then toward the end you claim you're free of that as "their hold on me is gone." Seems contradictory. Good topic, might still need a little bit of fine tuning. Well penned. Les

Roy; Near and notable alliteration's in "through my thoughts". I enjoyed your of 8/6,8/6 metering which was done perfectly. This rhythmic meter, tempo, cadence and timing all were helpful in making the reading smooth, clear and easy. Shingle rhyming quatrains were done also very well and neither forced nor labored and helpful in the rhythmic flow and each rhyming word was contingent to the meaning and concept of the line. Your writing was very impressive and how through metaphorical imagery were able to describe and express metaphysical beings that tormented you. And but to the grace of God you're able to suppress their agitation. Good luck in the contest and may the Lord be with you always.

Wow, this is flawless, and addresses the prompt's requirements well. It is also very inspiring. I especially loved those first two lines, but all of it is very moving - best of luck in the contest with this wonderful poem. :)
