Christmas is my favorite holiday, I grew up with parents who celebrated Christmas. Your mother's fondness for Christmas is a warm memory that lasts forever. Excellent story that impacts the reader.

This is lump-in-the-throat beautiful. I especially love how your children helped your father re-capture some of the Christmas spirit. It reads like a Reader's Digest contest winner - gets right at the core of what is magical about Christmas.
I too love Christmas - got it from my father, and have passed it on to my children (now young adults). As you point out, it is a link to our past and a link to our faith.

Thank you for your review and kind words. I appreciate it. I took a nap today while playing a Arthur Fiedler Boston Pops Christmas CD.

Aw, this melts my heart for many reasons. My condolence on the loss of your mother. It is a blessing that you keep her memory alive by following her Christmas traditions. Wow, your mother thought about Christmas in January, so closely after the holiday festivities.
There was only one thing that I did not quite understand in your story. When did your mother pass away? You mentioned 10 months later, but from what year. I am sure it is just me missing something in your lovely story.
Good luck in the contest. This story has winning potential.

My mother passed away in October of the next year. I was 7 and my sister was 6. Dad pulled us together and told us in November that there would be no Christmas that year.
I hope this clarifies.
Thank you for the review and comments.

This is a poignant account. There was sadness which still touches you tday. But you treasure your memories. This is a good example for the readers how to be appreciative; to find the positive aspects of life. Thank you.

This is a beautiful tribute to your mom's Christmas spirit which you managed to keep after her death. You met the contest requirements. Good luck in the contest.

I wish I still had a six star rating left to give you. I think the gift you received from your mother was awesome, I especially like how she would read you the story of Jesus birth to remind you for the true meaning of the season. Good luck in the contest.

A very well-written heartfelt Story about the little things in life that make Christmas celebrations special for little children when we teach them the real reason for Christmas.

A touching Christmas story you share. A special Christmas coming as a blessing and a gift from a very loving mother and a supportive husband. I like the part where.. "Dad said he would always remenber the glow on Ma's face as we tore into our toys." This is so a beautiful feeling of Christmas for the whole family. Precious moments like this is captured like snap shots kept vivid and alive. It lingers and continues to pass on! Would make a good auto biography for the future generation. Nice.. Good Christmas story.
