Well...I know that feeling so well. When music is such a huge part of your life, these things do happen.
Always entertaining reading your excerpts from the "Key of Life" book.
Another little gem.
All the Best, Tedd

    Hi, Tedd!
I'm back from my three-year hiatus and have found this lovely review of yours in my inbox. Thank you for your words of encouragement. I remember well that that was always your calling card. xo

I'm catching up on my favorite writer's old posts. I will now think of you every time that I see a dreydl, which will be frequently since my community is heavily Jewish. You are right; there needs to be more Hanukkah songs. Going through 16 years of elementary school holiday programs, there was not much variety for the Jewish segment of the program. I felt sorry for the children having to sing the same old songs.

    Hi, Dolly!
In an effort to have a "0-balance" Reviews inbox, I am replying to all the ones that were left for me while I was on hiatus! This was among them. Talk about a blast from the past, right?! Thanks for the nice review. xo

I laughed reading this. I immediately began hearing 'Heart and Soul.' I am pretty sure I could still play it. I, many years after the fact, cringed when I thought of a gift I once proudly gave my very elegant and probably teatotaling piano teacher. A musical beer stein that played 'How Dry I Am.'
This is delightful and charming. I'd like to book a room in That Safe Place Where No One Can Hurt Me! I get a lot of very practical advice from your stories and so much pleasure.

Afraid the on Jewish song I know is Hava Nagila. Looked up your song on the net, maybe suicide is appropriate after a day of hearing differing versions.

Now you know why I forbid it! (According to Jewish Law, if you commit suicide, you cannot be buried as a Jew.)

Thank you for your understanding review!!! xo

For me, it's Fur Elise. I hate that song. I had a piano teacher that made me play it and I hated every minute of it. I don't have fond memories of that teacher either. Students used to be so proud of themselves for learning it on their own and played it for me hoping I would be so thrilled. Ughhhhhh!

I enjoyed reading your story. You remind me that I used to be surrounded by lovely music. Now my piano is silent unless my daughter comes over and plays it which isn't very often anymore.

I'm not familiar with the song you mentioned.

I'm getting to that point with Fur Elise, too. I usually have to listen to it just once a year, since someone always chooses it as a recital piece. Once a year's doable. (And you'll love the way I introduce it: "And now, the song no recital should be without!" Meanwhile, I'm thinking, "And now the song that has tormented me yet another year.")

As far as the Dreydl Song, no matter what you do, do NOT google it. Your life will change...and NOT for the better. You have been warned.

    Great review, Joy. Thank you.
(So is writing your therapy now, instead of playing piano?)

yes it is. I went through a traumatic event and turned to writing to keep me going. It pulled me through.

Rachelle:

We must be careful what we teach our students because it
will always come back to haunt us. LOL! I look forward to
reading about the Holiday Songs Challenge.

I love it when my granddaughter plays "Heart and Soul" on the piano. It isn't so much the song but the blessings that I have been given from God. I love the innocent feel of your story.

Hello Again, Rachelle!
Gawd!
Another smile for this incredibly rainy Monday!
Really? The mug is cemented to the shelf paper? Too funny! And a darn good place for it.
Now...I must inquire: Do you think your student purchased said gift at The Dollar Store? :)
Fast-paced and hilarious!
Thank you for sharing!

Another great read. I am not Jewish but have celebrated Hanukkah. To my dismay I taught my great grandchildren the dreidel song.
Blessings,
Elaine

This is a very cute story, but I have to admit, I love the dreydl song. I first heard it on the holiday special of South park many years ago, and I thought it was a very catchy tune. Still, I wouldn't want it in musical mug.

Your story is related in a well-constructed format which tells the story with good detail and in a way anyone can identify with. The teaser for the next chapter is a good idea. I look forward to the next one!
