This works well for most people. Except for those who have their own accounts they sent their tax forms to. They just do the collection
of forms and not the adding. But they usually come to the same
result. They owe.
Good luck and keep wrtiting.

Hi, Brigitte,
I was a tax preparer for years. I absolutely loved it, except for the first year after a change in the tax code. No one is ever advised on the best way to adjust their withholdings, and the result is a lot of people NOT getting the refund they were expecting. When you're the tax preparer, you get all the GRUFF!
This year hasn't been any different. I only do my own taxes, but I'm so glad I changed W4s as soon as the new code was announced - though NOT available to scrutinize until very late.
The only reason we saw a refund is that I created a business with my writing. Of course, this year, I lost money, but next year will be a different story.
Hope if this is based in truth, you didn't owe too much!
Thank you for sharing,

Oh yes, you will be making money from your writing so the piper will have to paid. HaHa. Ironic, it will be a different story, write it up and share.
Thanks for reading and the review.

Thanks for commiserating with me. I was inspired by the box of paperwork to be rummaged through that has been sitting on my dining room table. Farm taxes are really complicated. Thanks for reading and I hope I didn't spoil your day thinking about this miserable task.
Many Blessings,
Brigitte

It does and doesn't add up. This was fun and fresh. I enjoyed your themed story. I have an account, thank God.
One little critique. Your first paragraph is your opener, and needs to be crisp and clear. I would suggest the following for you second sentence:
"Rummaging through stacks of receipts and paperwork is a daunting task, but needs to done."
I hope this helps. This is a great entry for the contest and I wish you well. I will be rooting for you.
All my best,
Sal :+)

It was at the end of the story that I realized which title you had chosen. Great usage of the title.
Your creative juices were flowing with this poem.
I read that because of tax law changes, fewer Americans would receive refunds (and owe) or would receive significantly lower refunds in comparisons to previous years.
I have not completed my taxes yet, but I am hoping when it all adds up, I will receive a refund.
Great story! Good luck in the contest.

I hope yours adds up to a big check. My muse was the box of receipts sitting on the table, ugh! Farm taxes are so complicated and I am procrastinating. Thanks for the read and review.
This title was perfect at this particular time of year.
many blessings,
Brigitte

You did a great job, Ulla, describing the thoughts and feelings of one who is fretting over their taxes wondering if they will get a refund. Your words are focused and true. I enjoyed reading it.
Doesn't the title of your work have to be the same title as the one you chose "It All Adds Up?"
Thanks for sharing something that most of us will be doing a lot of in the next few weeks. Best wishes in the contest. Jan

I believe you are correct, went back and changed the title to be compliant. Thank you for reading and helping me to make this a proper entry. Glad you enjoyed reading and the gentle reminder of what you have to do before April 15th.
Many Blessings,
Brigitte
