I think this is about doing things for the wrong reasons. That is why you have an umbrella in a snowstorm and why you are going to school not for the reasons of assimilating knowledge but to show off the new and inapropriate umbrella. This is a fascinating way of making that comment. It works really well.

Besides the part of me that just likes the way this flows, I am also going to come at this from another perspective... as a parent. This poem hits the nail on the head. It makes me think of my child's need to bring in every "new" item into school if not just to be with it.
