For some of us winter overstays its welcome.6 total reviews

You're much more tolerant of winter than I am. You make her sound just vaguely annoying, whereas I think of her as a murderous old witch. LOL! I enjoyed your fantastical descriptions of winter as wearing an icy crystal crown, and a snowy white gown. Aunty winter, who always overstays her welcome! Well done, author. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for sharing. At the beginning of the poem, I thought this was a traditional form, but I quickly saw that this was free verse. You have personified Winter as the contest criteria stipulates. The illustration you have chosen compliments the poem magnificently. Good luck with your contest entry!

Excellent use of personification! I like the comparison of winter to a relative who you may or may not like coming for a stay. I think "morning" is meant to be "mourning" in the third stanza. The third stanza is the one that resonates the most with me. It appeals to the senses of sight and sound so eloquently.

No it is meant to be morning when one awakens and the trees are tinkling from a winter ice storm. Thanks for the read and the comments.

Ah, okay. I was thinking a mournful sound. Got it.

I like how you have personified Winter as the visiting old rich and elegant Aunt who overstays her welcome. Good description of her antics in stanza two and her bribery tactics in stanza six.

Absolutely love this write -- it not only gives winter's grip and cold the personification as prescribed, but to have that personification be an Aunt that totally overstays her welcome? Brilliant!! :) ;) Yes! some of us are very happy when the Aunty goes home!! :) ;)
Thank you for sharing and good luck in the contest! :) ;)
