The secret of this piece lies not only in the words but the clever use of alternating colours. This is what chameleons do when they are frightened. They flash from one colour to another. Octopi do the same. The chameleon I remember from several decades ago was tipped out of his quarters one day and flashed from his golden brown to a grey green of the settee he landed on. Then as he ran for cover, he went pink and grey and mauve. Poor little fella. This is a cute little poem about the change ability of the chameleon. Now you see me now you don't. Peek-a-boo

A cleverly rhymed poem from the point of view of a chameleon poet. He'd (or she'd) also make a good private dick, easily performing his foremost skill, unobserved at close range, at fornicators' favored spots, such as secluded lovers lanes.

Foolish is the man who looks only with the naked eye and thinks that he has seen the entire picture. The one looking with both the eye and the heart sees much more that is easily visible. I have a feeling that the chameleon is only one colour? He is never rainbow coloured, but he cannot, as you say, be pigeonholed! He will blend into his habitat nicely thank you! Love Dolly x
