You can't mistake the creature in the snow, it definitely is a dragon's head, obviously killed by a knight of the Kings realm. LOL, Tom, you have written a fabulous poem all about a fallen tree trunk, I do collect smaller pieces, and have cleaned them up and polished them. They make good talking items when I have people to dinner. I don't think your find would fit on my shelf. Wonderful poem you have created here, and a fun read. :) Sandra xsx

Thank you Sandra. Hah! That piece is about 6 ft long. It wouldn't fit on many diningroom tables.

Excellent little piece here, Tom. Thanks for all the info in the author notes. I never heard of St. George before. Great meter throughout. How could I not review a piece on a dragon's skull, lol. Have a good one, Tom.

Thanks for the history of St George. The most amusing bit for me is the folk substituting a maiden as second best after the sheep. The Welsh are still being accused of that to this day. Lol.

I love your dragon's head and the poem you have attached to it. you have a very creative eye. There is a bear in an ash tree in my garden, and somewhere a poem, sonnet if I remember right, that I wrote about him.

Thank you Pantygynt. That would be inspirational. If you haven't posted it here yet, you should. Ah, to have the eye and the imagination. Such a gift it is.

A wonderful poem you've penned, Tom. I appreciate your imagination. The driftwood indeed resembles a dragon's petrified head. You were duly inspired and captivated that moment in verse. Fantasy and history woven together in this poem. You're very talented.

Magnificent!!!!!!!

I was taken back in time!!

My imagination ran the gamut from a dragon being slayed to the scientist painstakingly trying to piece together such a wonderful piece of history of a fossil. I could imagine one trying to figure out what it might be and how it lived.

And I wondered was it the twisted roots and trunk of a washed up tree.

Beautifully painted picture as the story was told.
I totally loved it!

Thank you for the background about Saint George and your motivation for creating this Sestet. I enjoyed your tale of the Dragon and your rhymes along with your tribute to your middle name. By George, literally! -Joan

Treischel: amazing story of saint George, the princess and the legend. I like your tight iambic meter and rhymes. The dragon watches with his eyes. The petrified wood still has stories to tell of history. The mighty captain of the Lord's army helped saint George slay the dragon and capture the princess. Well written. I think you are an amazing writer, my Minnesota friend. Are you published?

We were in Minneapolis four times in December and January with the mission of being in Denver to see my daughter. We sent Annie first on winter break with Frontier. John and I just came back. Got to see the trains going to the airport. Monica is working with autism youth in Denver. We got to see her new condo and site see. They had a snow storm and people were in crashes and in ditch. We heard that Hwy 90 was in the same shape with snow issues. Trucks were jack knifed, too. I pray you are safe as you travel the fast roads in Minneapolis.

Great poem! flylikeaneagle

Thank you flylikeaneagle. I know how I 90 gets between here and Denver, driven it many times. Seen lots of jackknifed trucks. Yes, I am published with two books on Amazon. They should show at the bottom of my profile.

Well this is another knew one to me but I really enjoyed it. A subject I have never read before in a poem but one I thoroughly enjoyed. Well done.
