Awesome. You are so clever. I forget that there could be notes after the poem - If I would have read them I wouldn't have had to look up Basho. I love your work.

LOL. . .you may not think you understand haiku. . .but girl you sure do understand senryu !! Great use of haiku's cousin ;-)
(5 stars) = EXCELLENT. I would recommend this to a friend! I enjoyed the read and found both the content and the construction admirably accomplished.

good luck in the contest
your syllable count spot on
your few words portray the message well of not finding a haiku as words allude one
great satori on the poet Basho
flows
cheers smoothiecool

I love the pairing of this photo and 5/7/5 poem
good alliteration in perplexed/put/pen
many readers will identify with the speaker who has not figured out how to navigate through the myriad haiku rules/requirements LOL
the final line is hysterically funny, as Basho has nothing to worry about as far as being displaced by the speaker as a writer of acclaimed haiku LOL This is the wittiest thing I've read in a long time :-) Brooke

I had to smile as I read your poem I thought it was cute.
But your author notes took the cake, for I feel the same way, is this really a fluke? Thank you for sharing.

Debra; While you achieve the requirements for this 5/7/5 syllabic format of the contest. But this being a 5/7/5 type of poem you've written that more like a haiku for your last line of or satori sums up your poem quite well and doesn't seem to correlate with the other two lines were 5/7/5 type of poem does. At least that is my summation. I I do like the photograph that you chosen for this poem as it represents and complements your poem very much and the lines in your poem reflect that. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing and posting and may the good Lord be with you always.

Comment from Val Crisson
Haiku alludes many, because we really don't understand the "moment" caught. But none the less, little presentation and actually quite a nice satori line. Though I think Basho would be amused.

What a cute little poem. I love to read haiku, but I find it is pretty tough to write a good haiku. Good luck in the contest! This poem is a winner. Thank you for sharing this great poem.

I loved this, and I loved the picture with it. It could have been written about me. Thanks for sharing this, and for your honest, tongue-in-cheek attitude about it.

Geesh, I feel ya, Debra. It seems when I write 5-7-5, people will invariably tell me that it reads like senryu, and when I write haiku, people say it reads like 5-7-5...you get the picture. It's a lot harder than most people think it is.
Good work! ~Dean
