AnnieGale, my heart goes out to you as you have to see your mother go through this disease and see how it is robbing her of memories so precious. Those memories that you carry about a mother who loved you so much, I am sure of this because of the love that comes through in the story.
On time I had to be in hospital for depression and they brought in an 85 y/o lady with this disease. In her stage she was still talking some, but most of what she said, was curse words. This bothered me because I was sure she had not been raised to talk like that. I sat with her on the couch in the day room and began to softly sing hymns of faith. She joined in the singing and never missed a word. The rest of the day she did not curse again.

Thank you, It is amazing that there are several ladies in my mom's unit that sing hymns and never miss a beat. My mom is always sweet and quiet as she was when we were growing up. Thank you for your compassion filled words.

Very emotionally written, made me cry. You are right and what you have done is right as she is safe there and happy because she gets to see you and you have your sanity still. Well narrated and it read really well. faye

Thank you Faye, I have written a few other shorts stories about my mom, I think it helps me deal with it better than I would if I didn't. I have come to terms with it. My grandmother had it also and my mom made me promise to never put her in a nursing home so that part is somewhat difficult, but I do think she is best there. She is 86, was given a 6 month prognosis 10 months ago. She makes me stronger than I ever realized. Thank you again for your understanding words.

I feel your pain as my mother is lost in the fog of this hateful disease. She is in her home, my sister has the burden of daily visits, we hired very loving care givers. I feel so guilty that I live thousands of miles away and the best I can do is send money. Poor, beloved mother doesn't know who she is or where she is, a cruel disease that affects the whole family.

Thank you...more and more you hear of this and there is nothing we can do but stand by and be there as best we can. They call it the long good-bye and some don't understand unless they've experienced it. Thank you for understanding and best to you and your family.
