Dear Shari: another GRAND IMAGINATION to say the least! I really got a kick out of this one but the only suggestion I can make is: Make sure you get a manual bypass on your electric garage door opener! Great fun! Vance

I discovered we has one after the fact. Sigh...

What a great picture to make your point. A clever combination of wit and art. Gives the reader something to ponder. I have been through those power outages but my problem was an overstocked freezer and no where to put it. Finally had to lug it all up to my sisters. Six day outage in July.

Ouch! I went through three days in July. I could live with it as long as I had books. Our block pooled resources and had big barbeques.

So was it dry cereal since the milk was in the refrigerator or did you get quickly get the milk out while trying to keep the cold inside? I hope you weren't out of electricity for long. Great job with this

A few hours, Meghan. But it was good for a diet. L0L

Oh hell, that sucks! But if this ever happens again, check the bottom of the big door - there should be an place to unplug the electrical and then a pull rope should be dangling from above, so you can pull the chain and open it manually.
Excellent 5-7-5. I love cereal for dinner!

Well, I found the pull rope. I didn't know there was a place to unplug the electrical. Thanks.
I love cereal anytime too. Breakfast is my favorite meal.

Oh my how this brings back some strong memories of days just like this. Many here don't have electricity so they sell milk in cartons that prevent the milk from spoiling. Of course, you have to use it up quickly once it is open. Very clever and I got a real kick out of this one.

I never thought of that. Milk comes in plastic jugs now and keep longer.

It's amazing what life is reduced to. We are so locked into electric worlds that a power outage has some serious flow on effects. I love the satori here, Spitfire. It seems to have no real link on first reading and then the wit and the irony hit home. So you'd actually have to go out and get take-away before without power. But, hey, cereal works too. Wrong time of the day, boo hoo. Clever and funny.

Yeap, you definitely have to make a leap to the satori line. L0L

Ain't that the truth! Been there and done that! Back in St. Louis, quite a few years ago, we had a huge ice storm and were without power for 3 days. Well, about $200.00 lost in food in the refrigerator and freezer and a busted water spigot outside. I can empathize with this!
Well-written and entertaining. What more could we want? best to ya,
Alan

Thanks, Alan, for sharing your story. That's been you put the barbeque pit in the garage and have a neighborhood block party.

Hi Shari ...
Hey, that's a great idea ...you might say it's house warming! Always a treat to hear from you!

I hate it when that happens. Although, I did discover later that you can manually open the garage. Thank goodness. I like the milk carton picture standing all alone. 8-)

Wait, you have to have a power outage in order to have ceral for dinner. I suppose the beer instead of milk is an option, right? This was funny and sad that your trapped in your house by modern conviences. Time to go back to oil lamps and horses. Good stuff there, Spitfire.

Sometimes we can't foresee when these outages may occur. We had one a few years ago that lasted more than a day. It sure helps to have supplies on hand. We always have enough food on hand, so I don't think we'd have to worry about eating cereal for dinner. Peanut butter sandwiches are good. Your syllable count is 5-7-5, as stated, and there is a thoughtful suggestion in this, as well as humor. judi

What if you don't have bread???. During a hurricane ten years ago we lost power for three days!

I thought one day without power was bad. Three days would have me checking into a motel where there's power. judi
