Very nicely done. I love the way this all comes together. The poetry format is very restrictive but your word choices are perfect. I love the message of your poem too.

Compassion for another is the one human emotion that seems to skip a beat. We fight to save the whales and dogs and cats and honey bees while the elderly live in destitution or children are malnourished and being abused. Point well taken...Nicely written.
