Very powerful. Marriage is hard work and the excitement goes quickly. Children can really tug and bind. Good for you to make it work and that you found happiness.

There is something to be said about the words and how they are spoken that really melts your heart.
Very excellent simile: My dissatisfactions grew like barnacles on a hull.

This is a beautiful story. The power of a little girl to keep the family together even though Dad was at the point of leaving. Excellent wording "imprisoned my leg and my heart.' "Like barnacles on a hull" is excellent. Good references to the imprisonment them with freedom day and entrapped. Best of luck in the contest. You got my vote. judi

They say marriage is an institution. But it is one for willing prisoners. Bet you now know your wife didn't cause the fights. Fighting for a good life caused the fights. You were both in the same boat. Good work. Good luck with the contest.

Yes, life can present all types of prisons and then we age and learn that there are also many different forms of freedom. Great tale.

Forty years ago I had several friends like the Speaker who felt like leaving their wives because they felt "chained" after marrying too young. Like this Speaker, theywere "held" back by the children they loved. Good simile of barnacles slowing the ship of matrimony.

This is a good story and well written. I liked your comparison of dissatisfaction to barnacles on a ship. I really liked the ending.

Beautiful picture!
That sort of prison I think I would not mind as much as my own.
Kids may be a responsibility and a stress at times, but at least they are also a joy too.
GL in the comp :)
