Love is quirky poem...I love the beat you read it in but mostly I love your use of commas, lol
Seriously, it is very well written and after perusing your profile your works are excellent. I'm loving this site I have only being coming a month but am thoroughly enjoying the critique and the reviews.
The only thing that I find of concern is this tepid star system. Giving people exceptional and excellent on a scale that goes from one to six stars, does not give the reviewer anywhere to go but down. I think there is a bit too much of the proverbial pissing in each others pockets to gain ratings points. Would rather the sincerity of an honest review and rating then a suck up six or five.its a bit like surfing judge giving a perfect 10 for a surfer's wave only to find the next wave was a heap better but the benchmark has been set..that is the analogy here. Personally, and this is just my opinion,I'd rather have no ratings points at all and allow more people to review your work and not having so many expired certificates after only 2 viewings. This idea of member dollars to buy more reviews.?..hmmm..the jury is still out with me I.m afraid.
Just looking at the standard of your work SteveI can't believe that you are that far down the ratings ladder your work shits on a lot of poets higher up!
that's where the system falls down..Hey just my opinion thousands would probably not agree

Dr D - thank you for the rave review - if you liked this you should delve a little further back in my portfolio and find Murder in the Cowshed and others....
Yep, the system here ain't perfect. I agree with you about the star system - not enough flexibility - I find myself giving fives a lot but the quality of the poems can be vastly different. As for rankings, quantity tends to win out over quality. I know I could be in the top ten if I had the time and energy to post two poems a day like some do....
Plenty of others will agree with you - not sure if you have discovered the forums (under Profile for some reason). However the benefits of the site outweigh the negatives (I think) You will get to know which reviewers are worth paying attention to and discover there is some awesome talent here.

This was actually, funny, AND funny. I think the only sure way to have those two beaten is to stop planting and replacing and just give in to a bare earth strategy.

You once declared all your escapades were fiction but with my knowledge of goats and your picture, another story's told. You're the master of this verse but the goats only need a master when they want one: never. Kenny

Ah, but the picture is posed and the goats don't really have a glider in their pen.... it's helicopter.
Thanks for stopping by.

A minor infraction that we'll categorize as, embellishment.

My my what shenanigans steve. This was a delightful romp through...well, just about everywhere and it seems these naughty little nibblers need a bleating spank once you get them contained and all the belongings back to the rightful owners. Haha I must say, I had a thoroughly good laugh at this one and simply must sixer you AND congratulate you on a most thoroughly deserved win. Glad I didn't even BOTHER with this contest, me think the goats won it haaaaaaaaaaaands down. LOL
Cheers P

Hi kiwisteveh,
What a cute story! So those goats have got your goat? lol! Love the way it's written. I didn't know about the wwII images until I read your notes, but going back, it's great with the poem.
Thanks so much for sharing with us & CONGRATULATIONS on winning!

Congratulations, Steve. A well earned win that's for sure. I am still smiling about those goats not understanding the message you wrote out on the board - that's kids for you! I will have to read this one out to Pete - he'll love it but too. Giddy

Giddy, thanks for the kind words and the six stars. I set the picture up as a bit of a joke for my former teaching colleagues in Cairns. I am wearing my Education Queensland 'Every day Counts' T-Shirt - I reckon it goes well with my gumboots and shorts!

Raise the shields round all the flowers!
Snipers, quickly mount your towers -
And someone send for reinforcements, PLEASE....
Congrats Steve for winning this one. Top banana too. This poetry is hilarious and I can see you arming yourself and the gardens.

Thank you - I'll beat those hooved escapers one way or another.
Chili spray on the flowers is one trick I haven't tried yet.

And they even love to eat tobacco! I really enjoyed your oh-so-funny poem! The line I liked best 'And their bleating sounds like little bursts of Morse' wonderful poem giving the reader a laugh for the day - animals are such clowns and forget growing anything with goats around - buckets on their heads? LOL
