Excellent and sad metaphors do describe loneliness, Jaq.
It's so easy to just chug along alone with the intention of doing something about it...tomorrow! Of course, being alone often knocks our confidence and ability to do something positive about it, when it seems easier for now to leave things as they are. Of course, new friends rarely come knocking on the front door.
I hope this isn't too bio, as I thought the hospital where you work must have various clubs and events to attend, and friends made at work are easier than complete strangers in a new and sometimes scary environment.
Best wishes, Ray

Awwww thank you Ray, this is a wonderful review, but fear not, I'm fine ;-). I tend to just write things out of my system and then all is ok. Great to see you back. :) Jaq xx

Comment from adewpearl
excellent alliteration in your opening
good pairing of cloaked and confined
I love the powerful imagery of the mind's virtual cell
strong verbs and alliteration in wither and wilt
you capture the essence of loneliness well
mind's barbed wire - a very compelling image to close

Good morning and this is really quite excellent. I looked for it in the voting booths but couldn't find the catagory:)You definitely caught the essense of lonliness very much like being a prisoner within ones own mind. Have a great day and take care my friend....Mark

This is well written to show the pain in a life of loneliness. Many times like the poem suggests, it is self inflicted. Well done

This poem is very well written. You did very well to reflect that state of loneliness as a very dark and terrifying place. Well done and good luck.

Comment from wiljacro
HI! I once lodged with a Lady who had severe Agrophobia, it was like sharing a house with a Zombe. She would not go outside even to take milk bottles off the front door step, and if the cat managed to escape outside, she would beg me to go out to find it and be in tears as she asked because she knew she was ill but could not find a cure! I had to leave after a month of listening to her sad excuses for not coping. wiljacro.
