The poem flows gracefully down the page and lulls the reading into peace. Excellent use of words, presentation and color. Great job.

Sounds wonderful but I don't have a beach anywhere near here. In fact, we are buried under a blanket of snow. I sure wish I could be where you are on that beach.

Well some people just have all the luck. While we east-coasters are freezing our collective...noses...off, you're snoozing in the tropical breeze. Well, enjoy an umbrella drink for me! Perfect description of the gentle sounds and sensations of a lazy afternoon in Paradise, Sharyn. :) nancy

oh dear - double pina coladas all round Nancy! Did you feel Sandy at all?

I few stiff breezes and some clouds in central NC. It snowed heavily in the mountains an hour and a half west of us. I was supposed to go to NYC to visit the grandkids that day. (They're on the north end of Manhattan Island and just fine.) Now I'm waiting for the city to return to normal operation before I make that trip. TV pictures of the Jersey Shore - my teenage haunt; I grew up a few miles from Staten Island - show there's nothing left of what I remember. So sad. It should be back into the 60s next week. Well thaw out then. Stay warm. :) nancy

wow! I didn't know you lived so close! My parents went through devastating floods in the 70's in Brisbane, Australia. When I went back last year, Brisbane had been wiped out again, almost 6 months before my visit. Homes were still in ruins, unoccupied ... it was really hard to comprehend that kind of devastation unless you're actually there.

It was hard not to be close, Sharyn. There was damage all along the east coast, right from Florida all the way up. The storm crossed Pennsylvania and went up through western Maine as a tropical storm. Its moisture fed that Great Lakes snowstorm and there was snow all the way to Cleveland, Ohio and south to the Kentucky and Tennessee mountains, west of us. We sit in an untouched pocket. Pretty much everyone east of the Mississippi River was affected in some way. LaGuardia Airport (on Long Island, NY) just opened yesterday, but public ground transportation is spotty because gasoline is scarce - no electricity to run the gas pumps. They began pumping out the flooded subways yesterday. A friend on the Delaware coast says entire beaches were washed away - no houses, no sand, nothing left. The destruction was almost simultaneous with NJ/NY. The storm was nearly 1,000 miles wide. The death toll has reached 70. While very sad, it could have been so much worse.I can easily imagine the destruction in Brisbane. And it takes a long time to rebuild when there's destruction on that scale. Just getting enough materials and workmen will be a long-term challenge.

    I rattle on. :) nancy

Hullo Visionary ....

I really enjoyed what you have written here, using relatively few words that are attractively presented.
This certainly stirs up great memories of my teen-years, when I lived in a warm climate and getting to the beach and into the breakers was my constant ambition.
There is nothing to suggest changing and I thank you
for sharing this with us.
Love from .... Nanette Mary.

Fabulous picture that just makes you want to drop everything and fly to Hawaii and join you on the beach. The poem was delightful, filled with images and the lullaby sound of the sea. Excellent!

Hi again :)

I'd say that it is not a wild guess saying that you have used both the form and alliteration on the letter 's' to lure the reader into a state of mind that is related to the title. Damn I feel tired... :) It's a great imitation of the sound of the Ocean.

It was a really nice read, thank you for sharing :)

Jim

Okay don't rub it in. I'm already jealous. I can only imagine being on the warm beach as you describe the soft scented salty winds and rolling waves with their soothing sounds merging with the shore.

Excellent imagery in your free verse describing both sights and sounds. Great use of alliteration throughout. Love the picture. What a place for a hammock! Good color scheme too.

Blessings,
Maria C.
