Interesting and some of the images are good. Is the word 'fore' correct in the fourth line? When you write 'august' are you thinking of a strong personality, which would fit right with your 'imperial' bird?

Yes august was for how strong the eagle is. Fore as in forward I think works well. Thank you for your kind critique. x

Nice example of Tanka poetry with a lovely graphic to compliment it.
"you glide so easily fore" is such a beautiful phrase.
Good luck to you in the contest.

This Tanka is a beautiful tribute to the eagle (the picture shows a bald eagle, I think) the symbol of America. I love the lines:
you glide so easily fore
august, imperial bird
Words such as majestic, too, help to create the image of a truly special bird with a lot of dignity and a fit symbol of our country.
Beautifully done. Wishes for much luck in the contest.

Your poem is in good syllable count for the tanka contest
Lovely descriptive detail that makes this scene appealing and easy to visualize
ruffles is an excellent verb choice and adds another sense to the mix and life to the scene
I love the final line - great word choices to capture the essence of this bird :-) Brooke
