Dear Fleedleflump,

I am not sure I see your intent, is the world gone to hell and are we too late? Man is depraved that is true, for will he see the truth the light, I dismay.

Warm regards,

Winslow

Thank you, Winslow. This was one of my more obscure pieces! It was predicated on the thought 'if the meek inherited the earth, would they still be meek?'

This was kind of like reading a movie waiting to be turned into a screenplay and filmed. Or maybe a movie trailer. At any rate, it's an excellent read with great imagery and flow. Love it!

Excellent work. Dark, deep, thought provoking. To me, the meek cannot inherit the earth because evil can only be defeated by the sword. Hence, you have well presented a conundrum. Dan :))

Thanks so much, Dan! I'm thrilled you enjoyed it so much. Apologies for the slow response - I've had very little time on site the last few days.

Lovely artwork here and a very competent poem to go with it. I liked the alternating lines of verse. It has a good metrical pattern and rhyme scheme. Some interesting thoughts in the poem. Well done!

I liked the second poem better than the first one. The first one is a bit confusing until you read the second one. The second poem starts out with two outstanding lines that just make you want to read on. This was my pleasure to have read and written this response for... John

Thanks, John. I had initially written just the first one, and the second I added before posting because I realised, as you say, it didn;t quite stand on its own. Thanks for the insightful, encouraging review :-).

I find myself saying that the strong have carried the weak so long we are all now weak. Have we become enablers along the way? Best to you with the entry.

Thank you, Jean :-). I think the line has become so grey it's dissipated into the mass of society. I'm glad you saw into the themes on this.

I did enjoy this read, I found it to be very interesting and felt it to be very poetic too, I get a feeling of impending doom for some reason, still I think it's great

Thank you, Mushroom. It is meant to be quite dark, calling into question the benevolence of triumph. I'm so glad you liked it :-)

Almost prophetic in content, complete with the fact that they accompany each other quite well and cast a vision for the future. Nice work

You been reading the bible in your spare time Mike? A beautifully crafted apocalyptic offering from your gifted pen, a mirrored pair of sonnets... Impressive! This is one to read over and over and over again before one can truly appreciate it, good luck with it mate!
The meek are supposed to inherit the earth are they not?

Not sure I've actually seen a bible since primary school, but there you go! Glad you appreciate this, mate. My idea was 'if the meek inherited the earth, would they still be the meek?'

Sh*t I think I must of read it at least 3 times before I was 16, we used to read as a family every morning for an hour, the bible or book of Mormon[true], I think I owe a lot of my inspiration to that particular book, funny that I seem drawn to the darker side of its writings though, demons and angels :)
At first, maybe, but time has a way of corrupting the hearts and minds of men does it not?

Indeed it does! I was brought up 100% agnostic, which suits me just fine. I sang hymns every day in school assembly, but that was just saomething we did every day - I never attributed any spiritual importance to it. Having said that, got to love the biblical imagery, especially when one can twist it. It gives a lot of power.
