That is very true and most of us don't think about it regularly until we see something in front of us that reminds us how hard life can be for others. Thank you for sharing and reminding us to step out of our comfort zone for others.
Merry Christmas.

Hi Barry,
This is a good rhyming poem that despite no specific meter, flows well. It is the sad story of life in war torn area. I hope to that they will find a place safe enough to be children again and play. The repetition enhances the emotion in the poem
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Hope this did well in the contest.
Merry Christmas.
Joan

This was such a sad and touching story told in poem. In so many situations it is the children that suffer the most when the adults have the issues.

It is hard to imagine the thought of having to leave your home and make a an unknown journey, hoping someone, somewhere will let you in. A well written piece, Barry, I enjoyed reading it. Good luck in the contest.

This is the sad reality for children suffering all over the world as victims of senseless wars. Imagine the pain of losing so many family members and not having anyone around to care for or comfort them. Constantly on the move with hope slowly fading away. This is heartbreaking, but needed to be said.

out of the heat of the day
My feet became my shoes

good visual effect there. Takes the reader right into the world of imagination....

Well told story poem. Made me sad...

These situations seem to be more common today then any of us realize. One can only hope for a brighter tomorrow and peace across the world.

I enjoyed both your poem and your author note. You explain vivid scenes and feelings within your free form and you use words that bring it to life. This is relatable. Best wishes, Alex

Stunning free verse...

You show us the horror of war and we dare not look away...

God bless the children!

"Walking became our day, but at night
out of the heat of the day
My feet became my shoes...'

That alone deserves six stars but it is the end of the week and have none to give.

Your powerful poem will stay with me tonight.

Not everyone has sugarplum dreams.

I wish the nightmare would stop!

Karenina
