Love your words about the hummingbirds. They are so much fun to watch. I have a bird feeder on the window in my kitchen and enjoy the various birds that feed at it. Your poetic form and use of words captures the delight in hummingbirds in watching these tiny birds.

Oh I love hummingbirds and I miss them so much during the cold months. In the summer we have 6 birdfeeds up outside of our sunroom and we watch them all day. Your poem is lovely and describes their anctics perfectly. thanks for sharing.

Marilyn,
Thank you for your kind review. I love hummingbirds they are so tiny and delicate. Do you make your own food?
Cecilia
-
Yes we do. We go through the sugar in the summer lol
-
Yes ma'am I do also. It's good for them and I wish the manufacturer would get rid of that red dye. It's killing them

Hummingbirds are such fun! Ours, unfortunately, have flown for the winter.. :( Your poem is full of wonderful observations and your use of active and passive descriptors is really good, but it seems to struggle for a rhythm for the reader to settle into and enjoy.... Perhaps finds a general rhyme scheme (abab, abcb, aabb, etc) or syllabic tune (8686, 8785, many more!!) to generally follow to help the reader 'rhythmically enjoy' your descriptors instead of simply reading them... Even a free verse can have a rhythmic feel to it... They are certainly the perfect choice for a lively poem and you really have a wonderful grasp of putting that to writing! ;) ;) Thanx for sharing, my lady!! ;)
For example (abab, 8686):
Dancing and diving in the sky
Darting, floating around
Oh, those little hummingbirds fly
Up out of sight then down

Y.M.,
Thank you for the kind review. I will look it over and see what I can do about getting some rhyme in there. I struggle hard with that. Thank you for advice. I appreciate you.

I really enjoyed reading your portrayal of these wonderful little birds. The imagery is vivid; my favourite line, 'The glittering leaves', immediately makes me think of the irridence of their plumage. - Terry

I am a huge nature lover too. Off course our birds in Oz are very different to America. It's a joy to watch them come and you put out so many feeders. Let me tell you an amazing occurrence: I walk my dog daily beside my power wheelchair. There had been a mighty storm the night before. I sighted a Magpie sitting on a fence. I have never been attacked by them, guessing they know I mean no harm. As we got closer, I expected him to take flight. He was five feet away and he stayed and I spoke to him quietly. He looked at me and he listened. I have never been so close to a wild bird. After 10 minutes he was still listening. What a joy! Thanks for sharing. K xx

Thank you for the kind review. That is amazing that you talked to the magpie and it just sat there for so longs. If you have patience a hummingbird will land on your finger for a few seconds. It's pretty awesome.

I love all the wonderful life that makes nature, but I have never given the little creatures much thought. When I lived in Tampa, two hummingbirds came and drank honey water from the feeder. It made me wonder how compact these little birds were. Your poem is well written. It makes me appreciate these tiny creatures. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, I think the hummingbird is one of nature's gifts to us, like jewels she shares, and they are quite the marvel scientifically too! Your poem captures this fact beautifully, and evokes much lovely imagery.

This is a very well written six star poem about the little humming birds and how they fly back and forth. I didn't know to put out a feeder this time of the year. I will do that. I so love the little birds and love watching them. God is so amazing at all His little creations. love and blessings, Teri

Teri,
Thank you for your kind review. Depending on were you live in the country you might not want to do that. I take my last feeder down in mid October. Two weeks after I see the last one in case they are stragglers. I make my own sugar water too. I don't know why the manufacturers like to put that red die in there.

We live in West Tennessee. Is it better I wait til next year?
-
Yes, they are already in South America for the winter. They say you can put them up as early as March, however I don' t put any out until April when I start seeing them show up. If it's too cold I know they aren't back yet.

Your eloquent descriptive words painted a picture so clear that I did not even have to close my eyes to see them. You have a very good way of using descriptive devices to paint beautiful pictures, Congratulations.

Hi Cecilia,
I don't believe I've reviewed you before; I write mostly prose, and read little poetry. But I love your sort of "ode" to the hummingbird. They are beautiful, delicate little birds, and I'm always thrilled when one stops by my front porch while I'm out in the afternoons.
And I didn't know a group was a glittering. Huh!
Thanks for sharing your poetry with us.
My only critique is that you used "flitting" twice in the poem; as it is an uncommon word, it stands out. "darting" or "zipping" perhaps?
Next to the last line you show humming birds as two words instead of one.
