Yep! It's a cave.

I like your creative approach to the story. You don't take us into the dark, moist, stinky cave. I didn't want to go anyway, even if I were only reading about it. This is a great story with a humorous tone. Best wishes in the contest.

Thanks so much. I appreciate the read. I have the desire to go, but not the ability. So, I write about it. Karen

I thought Marilyn would have a bigger part in this story. I'm sorry you're not going in that cave, but you know what's best for you. Myself, I might take a little peak.

The ground was too uneven for a walker, cane, or wheelchair.
Without miracle surgery, I will be unable to do a lot people take for granted. Thanks for the read. Karen

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I enjoyed reading and want to wish you luck with the contest.

Jean Lafitte - For whatever reason my husband has decided to a deep dive into this very interesting pirate. Of course, he has also decided that I need to listen to all the information he's learned. Lucky me?

Jean Lafitte is a distant cousin. He had a reputation with the women, so I may have many more distant cousins floating around that I know nothing about. They also say, that most all our Europian family ties spring from Genghis Khan. Now he can bore you with this too! Karen

Wonderful, Karen! This is a perfect length to introduce your characters and the prospect of digging up a family fortune (except this isn't the narrator's preferred option for spending her time). It's also very humorous and real. I mean who in their right senses at Mildred's age would be interested in getting down into a dank, dark cave whatever the possible reward? This opening chapter already offers a wealth of fun and possibility, not least because she's going caving whether she likes it or not! Well done, Karen, and good luck! Debbie

A few other people have said the story is set up for more chapters. Maybe some day I will come Back. This sentence nagged at me for some time. So I had to stop reviewing and write something. Thanks for the read Karen

Now, this is the way you enter a contest, Karen. You left me wanting more. Did they find the treasure? Were there bats or other blind creatures down there? Did Mildred Hempstead take a nap? You can spin a couple of hundred pages off this story. Best of luck in the contest.
God bless,
Steve

very cute,I can see myself in this but after my nap, I would want the pool!
and a frozen strawberry daiquiri or 3! But your story is very delightful and flows perfectly

I can't swim. I was never taught how to swim bea=cause my mother was afraid to be in water. Odd, because she loves baths. She would stay in until she got all pruny. Thanks for the read. Karen

I have to wonder if Jean Lafitte had smelly feet, for pirates had no showers to cleanse themselves, and as for per plunking scary caves while spelunking, I'd rather stay at home with you swooning a waltz or rattling my hips to a cha-cha, but best of all is doing the Bristol Stomp.

I don't know if I have ever done the Bristol Stomp. Have you ever done the cotton-eyed Joe? Thanks for the read. If we ever meet we can have a waltz . I'll even let you lead. Karen

My fear would have been crawling into a tight, dark space then not being able to get out!

A very different approach to this contest; instead of telling us what's in the cave, you tell us how and why you avoid it:-)

I wish you luck in this one . . . the deadline is right around the corner.

There is a very strong feeling about that as well. I get claustrophobia sometimes. One time I had an episode when I tried on some compression socks. They were so tight, I started having trouble breathing. Isn't that odd? We humans are odd creatures aren't we? Thanks for the read. Karen

I can imagine you and probably many others on FS, including Marilyn, drinking in the adventure and loving every minute of it YEARS AGO. Now, even though our heart may say go--go--go, our head says no--no--no! Take that Best Western and let someone else get lost inside that cave. Good one, Karen.

Riding in a car is adventure enough for me. Crawling around in a cave? Not remotely on my list. Thanks for the read.

This is a really cute story. It is exactly the way I would feel about going in a cave at this stage of my live. I'd take the Best Western any day of the week cave hunting for treasure.

The desire for adventure is still there, but the body says," Are you nuts?" Thanks for the read. Karen
