Hi Beth.
This is a good free verse that uses repetition well to enhance the emotion of the poem It agree that it was easier, in most ways, before the internet and cable. It was so much better when kids went outside to play instead of playing on game stations or online. And we actually talked and not texted. It seemed language was cleaner and nice back then.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a nice weekend.

Although I agree that social media has changed our society, and not for the better, I do recall that times were tough in the 60s, that the generations clashed over war and politics and social norms and drugs . . .

Our parents spoke of the "good old days" also, but they forget the cold war and post-depression era.

We've always had bad times, but we do seem to be in an age of disinformation and rage that makes it harder to move on.

You've written a good free verse for the contest, and it expresses the views of many.

Good luck.

There have always been bad times, but never a time I had to be so careful expressing an opinion around my own kids and family without getting someone all bent out of shape and wanting to argue. Thanks for the review and comments.

It was truly better in the years past. The politics of bitterness and conspiracy of today leaves many divided on opinion and friendship, and sometimes families part ways on political crossroad. Well done, dear Beth. Do have a blessed day.

I absolutely DO remember those days and, like you, long for them, too. It's so ridiculous that friendships end if political opinions aren't in sync. I've actually known people who lost life-long friends because of it. That just seems so bizarre to me! You lose someone you've loved your whole life because you pull a different lever on Election Day? I weep for what's become of our lives; I honestly do.

You did an excellent job with this poem, Beth. I hope it does well for you at the polls...oh geez, no pun intended there...

"tweeting was for the birds," lol so funny.

In some aspect the past was simpler and people were not as divided as today. We can thank Trump for that.

You are right about the news in some channels. Fox is the worse although they have been better about fact checking Trump, the lord of lies.

I try to watch just a couple of news casters on youtube otherwise is overwhelming it's overwhelming.

I try to watch comedy to balance the crazy news.

In the past, before the cell phones and social media life was simpler but I wouldn't go back.

Well done, Beth. It's a thought provoking piece.

Thank you for the nice review. I blame Trump for all the division. Even if we complained out about our leaders in the past, we didn't angry with those it voted for them and we didn't think our country was on the brink of falling apart like people do now.

This poem has some excellent observations within to make the reader think. Your points are very well taken, and I agree with each one. The poetry is well done, also. Good luck in the contest.

This work has reached the exceptional level

Seasons come and go. I love writing the 1800s - early 1900s, with comparing the growth of our nation. Never have I witnessed so much wisdom God has allowed toward modern day agriculture. Yes, our day has come and gone but it is great that God has allowed us to see today.

I'm not complaining about still being here. We live in interesting times and for some that is scary, but I'd rather be here than not. I'm not sure, about the agriculture. I keep hearing it our food is depleted almost of its nutritional value It seems we are putting to many poisonous chemicals into grown an not enough organic fertilizer. Maybe you not something I don't. I really appreciate the six stars.

You are welcome, Beth, agri has gone to high tech farming with robots picking our food. I think it is safer.

I knew there were machines designed to pick our food and cotton. It takes away some jobs that most aren't anxious to do.

No, BethShelby, you are not dreaming. Those days will probably never return. I often lament how times are changing and how that change has sped up since the pandemic. I, too, wish for those bygone days when life was a lot easier, not so hectic, and people knew how to communicate with each other. Thank you for bringing some of those nostalgic moments back.

I personally hate social media, I feel I need to be on it, but I am getting more and more tempted to come off of it. It seems to be full of people moaning, and people arguing with each other. No one seems to be allowed to have their own opinion anymore. A well written piece, Beth.

The world has become more complex these days and words now have double meanings and new words are invented all the time, it is so hard to keep up Beth. Your free-verse is poignant and I have never thought of politics as boring and it certainly is vibrant and kicking up a stink in the US just now, love Dolly x
