This gogyohka, Ensnared in Thorns, has the proper formatting and reminds the readers of the stories and poems which Edgar Allen Poe created to enfold us in the darkness and dread of the unknown.

Very well written - even though I do not like tales of horror and macabre works! You have written this with skill relating to Poe and his dark works, especially the Raven.

Definite Poe influence with this poem. I see some Dean influence too. I have a feeling you're just teasing us with what's to come during this Halloween season. I can't wait.

Bra-vo Gypsy! Yes, Poe can be like that. This is so well done I don't know where to start.
Yes, the Raven mocks our minds. I love that line. I just posted a Poe-inspired poem called A Halloween Walk. I'm not asking for a review but I wanted to tell you how tormented I became writing it. I thought I was going to start smoking opium and drinking laudnam.
He effects me like that.
Well done!

Yes, Poe touches the reader"s dark side that we all have. I can relate to him at a personal level because we both suffered from depression. He had a very sad life and his writing haunts the mind. I'm a fan.

Thank you very much, for the exceptional six stars review and kind words. katiemae

I always enjoyed Poe and even memories his Telltale Heart and did it as a dramatic reading on stage. However, Poe's Daughter was a little too gory. Maybe I've lost my taste for horror.

Another fine poem, Gypsy, Dean would have loved this. Makes one wonder, what demons lived in Poe's head? There's a fine line between darkness and madness

I saw in your notes you referenced Dean K... he was an inspiration and I loved it when he took the time to mentor new writers. He told me once to try writing by night by candlelight. The mood it creates is awesome. I have often wondered if you wrote that way yourself, seeing that your verses have a strong, moody vibe. Well done on all points, Gypsy!

Yes, Dean told me he channeled Poe writing by candlelight. He loved poems writing and his poems had the same meter and rhyme. One time he read the Raven to me, it sent shivers down my spine.

I loved Patrick's verse and the way you've been inspired here in this hauntingly woeful tale. Each line of darkness builds to your final, sinister summation of insanity. Thanks for sharing. Debbie

This is an excellent piece and I could feel the darkness seeping through in your writing. It made me think of a person struggling with their mind and depression as I was reading. I really enjoyed reading it.

Poe is a good one to blame for nightmares! He really had fantastic descriptions that could scare people and he seemed to know the psychology behind fear and guilt!

Yes, Poe was an interesting person, very gifted and dark. He suffered from horrible depression. Many artists have manic and depression episodes. Dean was obsessed with poe and he told me he channeled him through his poems.

Thank you big sister. I hope you had a wonderful weekend.
