That was sweet and clever. Sneaky, but inventive too. When kids are fearful a pet gives them someone to talk to and hug and kiss.
I am allergic, and I got to tell you turtles were n o substitute.

I would have been loss without my dog during childhood and even today. I don't recall a time I didn't have one with me, Thanks for the review and comments.

A loud crack of thunder shook the old house. I love how you use these descriptive sentences when you are describing a situation in your stories. This is a great line too. And the fact that they got to keep Max the dog too! Keep up the great work Carol!

Of course, I had to get Max off the streets and into a nice loving home... Kids, treats, and even a little love from MOm too. Thanks as always.

Well played, boys.
All of the best experts agree that all of the dogs people have are the reason monsters stay in hiding.
More dogs people!

I'm in awe. You are in the middle of a novel with lots of twists and turns...and out of nowhere you write this heartwarming story!
Who among us would not be praying Max has a new home?
I thought it so smart that Clark (a teen boy who would relish the chance to put a little scare in mom)-- did not go for the expected trip to his sister's room.
I have two brothers. Believe me they'd have been thinking like Clark!
What a feel good story!

I've been writing a few lately and have climbed up the ladder for reviewing, short story and I'm still sitting comfortably for now on the novel. though stupid me joined those blind contests and no one ever reads them. One was even my 1000 milestone but I didn't know that when I joined....I won't even get credit for reaching that! LOL

As writers we know the one who benefits most is ourselves...
But I understand what you mean!

Those background plans are always brewing in the shadows just out of view. And we never know exactly who the culprit is until the stage is set. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend!

This is a lovely story and well written. You bring the reader right into the family dynamic and into the stormy atmosphere. Such a clever young boy and a perfect companion dog.
I saw no errors.
A really fun read!

This is a lovely read, Carol, full of atmosphere with the storm brewing outside and everybody cosy within. My mind was racing ahead a bit and I thought Clark was going to pretend that the dog had been abandoned and he'd just rescued it from outside. Your version is obviously better. I'm sure Mum will get used to the idea after the shock! Take care Debbie

This is a cute story. There is nothing like a dog to bring happiness and peace into a home. I love this charming and creative story you wrote. I hope she lets him keep the dog.

How cute, Carol!! I just love the way you tell a story. There's excitement, danger and intrigue, just kiddo style. Clarke was quite the quick thinker, wasn't he? It all paid off in the end!! As usual, you had a twist at the end. I thought he was going to his sister's room to comfort her so he could prove the dog was useful, instead, you added another layer to it.
Great job,
Hugs,
Rhonda

It would have been to easy to have Amy whimper to mom about how cute Max was and how she felt safe. Clark needed to be that mischievous teenage boy. thanks so much for enjoying!
