The times of a child learning how to do and not do things. The turning point in most of our careers in mischief is being caught and punished before itis too late. In your case, the punishment went to the main culprits.

Thank you BIll, I felt badly enough about it, that I was punished in a way. I felt my parents had lost the trust they had in me and felt I'd turned into lier, and in way I had.

This story is very well written, and I enjoyed this to it very much. It happened in the same year that I spent the summer in Minnesota with my oldest brother. That was quite an adventure for me as an 11-year-old. Patricia.

Thank you Patricia. I really appreciate the review. It was a time I was't proud of my actions.

This is an excellent write, Beth. I enjoyed the story immensely and think your description of life back when we were young was good and apt. As you said... the truth will come out... as you know, we ALL face temptations and times we never share with others. Mine was at nine years old, I hid behind my bedroom door and whispered bad words... just to say them. I felt very badly afterwards and never told a soul, but now you know. Great write.

Than you Melissa. I'm sorry I allowed myself to follow those kids and even worse lied about it. But it was a learned experience and never did anything like that again.

I enjoyed this story very much. It was very interesting. It was well.written. it does really matter who we associate with. Peer pressure is so strong. Did you ever hear what happened to her? Great job.

Thank you Brenda. You are right. It does matter who we choose for friends. I don't know what happened to her. I've tried looking her up but haven't found her. I wonder how she turned out.

22 children - I wonder how many of their names he knew.
I bet we all have had "friends" that have called on us to do things we're uncomfortable with. I sure did, but I just didn't have the courage to say no to these kids.
LOL, Glenda sounds like quite a character, but it was probably best that you avoided each other.
An interesting look at the times and people in your neck of Mississippi.

Thank you Pam. Today, you could possibly get in real trouble for trashing someone's house when they were away, if they pressed chartges. Yes friends were were always coming up with bad ideas and it is often tempting not to go along. The funny thing is years later when I met my the guy who became my husband, he was from the same county she was from, just not the same little town. When I told my dad the guy I'd me met was from Smith county, he exploded. He said nothing good comes from that county. They were all murderers and horse thieves. My guy couldn't have been a nicer person. Some of his mother's family, the Duckworths had lived near Sullivan's Hollow. On the genealogy site I found one of the Duckworths had married a Sullivan. I just learned that recently.

Thanks for the additional information. I think a historical fiction on the Sullivan "clan" would be a lot of fun to read. As if you don't already have enough on your plate!

What a story! Yes, it is easy to be talked into doing something wrong because one doesn't want to be called a scaredy-cat. I'm sure your mother knew the truth. A good thing you moved in different circles from then on.
Well written, and an engaging story.

Thank you Wendy. I didn't tend to be that daring. I just knew those kids were going to get us in trouble. They were too bold with thier actions. I knew I was better off not hanging around them.

I also still remember my teachers at school and I remember being terrified when I found out my best friend was to receive the cane for gossiping in class. Mr Doors dished out the punishment and I feared him and hated him. You changed your opinion of your teacher later in life and we do tend to see everything in black and white when we are young.
Being found out in a lie brings us to our knees when we disappoint our parents and my Grandson seems to lie about everything and won't own up when he has done something wrong. I never believe a word he says now and I hope he grows out of this behaviour.
I enjoyed your story Beth, you always bring us an interesting tale to read, love Dolly x

Thank you Dolly. Kids got punished physically back then. Teachers couldn't get away with that now. We never called the punishment a cane. I picture them getting punished with a walking cane. Hopefully it was that severe. In this country it was flat paddle with holes drilled in it.

I don't have time to read all the stories that I read now, but I'm going to have to do a little Googling and learn more about Sullivan's Hollow. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Thankyou RIc. You can plenty. There have been a couple of books written and they were trying to do doctumetary. THey were horrible. A black man make one of them mad, and he was running some kind of business with a furnace. He picked the guy up and tossed in the fire and burned him up. Everyone in Mississippi knew about the reputation of the place and stayed away, but I don't think it is that bad any more.

Children do dumb things sometimes, myself included, this reminded me of how sometimes out of fear we follow the crowd, luckily nothing serious was done,

Thank you, Joann. We you are young and naive, it seems easier to go with the crowd until you get in too deep and then you start regretting it.

This was a fun read. Your new friend brought some daring into your life! Probably a good thing that later on you moved in different circles. I'm glad you were able to put the incident behind you.

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I was up for the excitement of hear her tales of Sullivan's Hollow but when we started going in places we didn't belong I got nervous. Her brand of adventure was more than I was ready for. I appreciate the six stars.
