OMG!!! An Army war hero! Too bad the author can:t writ for crap. All his suck stories are about what he thinks he is.
Get some class... take a class or join the Coast Guard.

Hi Harry, I can so identify.with you your story and how it was and is to join the military. I was married to a Navy man for many years, and now two.of my nephews have joined the navy. They are in boot camp as we speak. I loved this. Ulla:)))

I found your story interesting, especially because my grandson is in his third week of Army National Guard boot camp, and we've not had a lot of communication from him. What we have learned of what is going on sound pretty intense. This is nicely written.

Well, thank you Beth. I really appreciate the kind words and your review! You might not hear from him until about the sixth week. They keep them very busy and they don't get a lot of time to write home. However, they do allot some time once a week in the evening.

One of my life's regrets is that I never served in any of the armed forces. I graduated H.S. in 1972 and my plan was to go to college (which I did). And it wasn't till about the war in Kuwait did I start feeling this regret.

For me, your story is well written, I'm proud to say I read it and envisioned myself in your barracks among those 96 men.

Thank you for your service to our nation.

Thanks. What a great story detailed on the life of military service from prominent recruit to failure to unfortunate cuts. I really got the sense of being there. It almost had me saying I could have done that- maybe. I least I wanted to try.

This is a straightforward account of going through Fort Dix boot camp in 1978. The experience is told in a no-nonsense style that aligns with the personality of the narrator. The tone of the piece suggests that finishing the weeks of fitness training was not that big a deal but it was very demanding, based upon what I've heard from friends who served in the army or one of the other three corps. The factual design of this story would've benefited from the inclusion of some humor or more inclusion of the narrator's personal feelings during these important beginning weeks of his military career.

What an excellent and informative narrative about training for military service. It was honest, straightforward and at times humorous. Let me thank you for your service and for protecting your country. Thank you also for explaining the difficulties of training and preparing for war. I don't think I've ever heard the training process explained so clearly, not even by my relatives who served. Most didn't want to talk about it. Your story is honest and truthful.

This is a really interesting autobiographical story. I had to stop and think about hippie hair styles as late as 1978, but I guess it was the influence of the Bee Gees and others who were popular back then. This is also a good motivating story, since we could all work on eating more healthfully, even if we are not in the Army. Nice share.
