I found your story on the ranked top short stories. This is so touching. I wish I had a 6 if you care about that sort of thing. I have broken hearts and had mine broken, but the trip through life would not have any color without love. Gary and I celebrate 18 years this month. He expresses love by washing my car windows, turning it around for me and listening carefully. A good man. Kind. Comfortable to grow old with. Esther

    Hello Esther,
I'm so glad that you and Gary have a good relationship. God meant for men and women to be together, to help each other through life, and to enhance the quality of each other's lives. It's distressing to me that so many people have suffered with divorce or abuse or just a lack of love in their relationships. Like anything else in life, a successful marriage has to be worked at. Thanks so much for the delightful review gal.
    Have a blessed evening.

Hi
I loved reading this heartfelt piece. You have touched many kinds of broken hearts through your memories of country music. I appreciated most the kindness in your well written words and its natural flow.
Great read.

    Hello PUPA,
thanks so much for the wonderful review gal. Country music isn't something I ever thought I would come to enjoy as much I do now, but then I never thought I'd enjoy broccoli, asparagus or sweet potatoes. I guess my tastes finally grew up.
    Have a blessed evening.

Your reflection on country music and its deeper meanings is both thoughtful and heartfelt. You've effectively traced your personal journey from disliking country music to appreciating its nuanced messages, which adds a personal touch to your narrative. The transition from your initial resistance to discovering the value in the genre is engaging and relatable.

    Hello Patty,
thanks so much for the delightful review gal. I just downloaded a bunch more country songs for a friend. I was surprised that he enjoyed it. He spent his years in the sixties as a hippie and I suppose he listened to whatever was popular then. I know he named his son after the jeans -Levi. His grandson's name is Dylan, after Bob I suspect.
    Have a blessed evening gal.

Hi TB,
I love Country Music, too, so thanks for sharing that. Apart from the genre agreement, I'd like to say your post was very touching. You spoke on many of the heartbreaks we are experiencing and it was great. You're right, and whoever sang it, hearts aren't made to break. It was the particular gift of mankind that caused that. My parents died a few years ago. It was horrific for a child to lose both closely together, but my sister and I agreed that they were both happier that way. My mother outlived my father by 9 months. It was 9 months longer than she wanted.

Thanks for sharing you heart,
Rhonda

    Hello Rhonda,
I'm sorry to hear of your parent's passing. Regardless of our age, losing both parents can be overwhelming.
Lee Greenwood was the singer. He's the guy that sang about being proud to be an American, something we could use a whole lot more of. As troubled as we are and as divided as we may be right now, we still have a lot of freedom in this country.
Thanks so much for the wonderful review and comments gal. Have a blessed day.

This work has reached the exceptional level

A very heart(breaking-warming) reflective story about love.
Why some relationships fail maybe that some are sold on a fantasy and expectations of perfection rather excepting the real human being in front of them. Reality can hit hard. Love is a give and take and acceptance.
Only have old school country in my collection but one thing I have to say about country, with its sorrow and humor. It is more real and factual about life.
Beautifully written piece.
Best wishes
Mary

    Hello Mary,
thanks so much for the exceptional review gal. I'm so happy that it resonated with you. I had you and others in mind when I was writing this. I'm aware of your struggles and have included you in my prayers at night.
You're right, its foolish to elevate people to an unrealistic position,
but it happens, especially when we first fall in love. We kind of develop blinders. However, to continue to look through rose colored glasses is to invite conflict. Real love certainly goes beyond the superficial, and as you know too well, it requires sacrifice and determination to stay the course, regardless of the hardships.
I don't listen to much modern country, there seems to be a melting of country and rock now, but the more classic stuff I really enjoy.
I hope that things are going well for you gal. Have a blessed day.

Okay, now Tom, you had my melted heart in your hand...until that very last sentence in those Author's Notes. So bad (so funny) but so bad. Tsk, tsk on you.

My mentor's husband told Bobby shortly after we'd gotten married, "You should've gone fishin'."

This was actually a deep, beautifully written piece. I enjoyed (almost all of) it. xoxox [I'm teasing; I know you can take it.) xoxo

    Hello Rachelle,
Yes, I'm a big boy, I can handle some teasing. I could go fourteen hours fishing. Even a newly wed would be challenged to compete with that gal. I think I've enjoyed the best of all things in my life. I was quite serious about worrying about having one of us pass before the other one. I don't know what I'd do if Jan was gone, but then I worry about her if I'm not around to help. Fortunately we are close to two of our kids, and they would help her, but they have their own lives to live too. Thanks so much for the delightful review my friend. Have a blessed evening.

I hear you, Tom. I think of that scenario more and more as Bobby and I age, too. I tend to think I'll go first because longevity doesn't seem to be a strong suit in my family. By contrast, his mother is still alive at age 96. I do think, though, that I'd do better without him than vice versa. I'm more social and have lots more friends, whereas he's pretty much attached to me and his youngest son. That's not to say I wouldn't be bereft without him; I so totally would. Hopefully, we die together. xoxo

For some reason, and I know this must sound stupid, but I just thought that people with red hair lived longer. I'm not basing it on anything scientific, just a belief I've had unconsciously I guess. I hope you both have long and very wonderful lives together still.

There's just something about music that sues the troubled soul. I know that it is sometimes dependent on the style of music more than the lyrics, but the lyrics are important. My wife and children can't stand country western or southern gospel, they are my style of music. My kids and grandkids like rap while my wife likes rock and contemporary Christian. I believe music has made the difference for many people for millennia. Thanks for sharing from the heart.

    Hello Dr. Nad,
thanks so much for the great review and comments. I like a variety of music, including some things I never thought I would enjoy. Of course a movie wouldn't be able to capture the feeling of the moment without music. I happen to love a number of themes from movies. There is usually something for everyone.
    Have a blessed evening.

What a beautiful heartfelt piece of writing which really has got me thinking a lot more around the subject of loss and grief and what it means to different people and their situations. Hearts are so fragile, but so strong. We are made up to withstand the good and bad things that life throws our way. It's not made to be broken, but it's there to beat to the tune at hand and process. It helps us through, it goes to the beat of the tune that is our lives. Well done I really enjoyed this

Haha! I enjoyed this humorous look at the subjects of country music. My mother used to keep the radio on all day, on the same station. One day I came home from school and she was not there. I changed the station, and discovered country music. I loved the stories the music told.

My husband and I have spent a lifetime together. This post brought tears to my eyes with the thought of one of us leaving the other. It's a part of life that is the most difficult. Hearts really aren't made to break.

    Hello LJ,
I don't know what changed in my tastes, but country plays a big part of what I listen to now. I still enjoy a diverse variety of musical genres, I guess I just added country to my lists of things I enjoy.
My wife, Jan, and I have been married for 52 years. At times it's no picnic, for either of us, but after that long, we know what works and what to avoid for the most part. I hope you have many more years of marital bliss together. Have a blessed day.
