Another great story about your childhood, cuts are a serious thing not healed properly its a entry way for all sorts of germs, no errors noted in the piece.

Thank you Joann. I appreciate you comments. I am amazed we survived to adulthood because going to a doctor was rare, even when a visit was only four or five dollars.

4 or 5 dollars was a lot of money then, probably equivalent to 40 bucks today.

I read these chapters and feel like I'm inside an episode of Andy of Mayberry. They're so wholesome and interesting and full of fantastic tidbits that make the vignettes so full and entertaining!! I always feel great when I see another chapter arrive in my Inbox!! xoxxo

No matter how hard times get, time with dad at the circus can always take off the edge and make things better. Thanks for sharing. And now I have to fill in to get 150 characters LOL

Thank you Ric. That is aggrivating that we're expected to write so many characters sometimes for a "poem?" with many less characters. LOL

I did like full story and I enjoyed listening to it very much. I'm sorry you cut your foot on the glass, but I am happy that you got to go to the Ringling Brothers and Burnham Bailey Circus. I wish you the very best with all of your writing and I wish you a very good weekend. Patricia.

Brings back so many memories of a better way of life.

Shelling peas, beans, you name it. Did more than my share of that chore. But, if you wanted to eat you had to do the work so you could.

"gage on top," and "gage in red" should be gauge on top and gauge in red.

"Mom has seen" should be Mom had seen.

Always enjoy reading your stories about country living. As far as I am concerned, there is none better.

Thank you Brett. I appreciate the review and comments. I'm glad this triggered some memories for you. I appreciate you noticing the corrections. I see West is your last name. I assume it was the name of the man who adopted you. Since it was a family name for me I did research into the name and found it traces back to the original West who came to this country. He was very wealthy and owned all of the land that is now West Point. His wife's line traces back to royalty. I sure it doesn't matter to you but I'd mention it, if I haven't already.

First sentence needs a comma after class.
"with a old fashioned push ..." change "a" to "an"

My mother also had a pressure cooker that I was scared of. Because of that fear, I never purchased one for myself in all my adult life.

"It the back pasture was where the pond ..." I think this sentence is missing something - "It WAS the back pasture"?

Having grown up in South Florida in roughly the same era, there's a lot here that I can relate to. My grandmother used to have ice delivered, but we had freezers in our home.

Thanks for sharing, Beth.

Gee, you must have the highest pain tolerance! How could you just ignore that much pain and tried to hold it in? Wow!
I think bacteria was milder back when we were younger. Now the germs are so antibiotic resistant and my sis-in-law was hospitalized because of an infected finger! I hear of people having to use three or four different antibiotics. Thank the Lord for giving you a strong immune system!
And yes, I remember the circus story. Glad you dad had fun - that's why some people enjoy the childhood they didn't have through their kids! Lol.

There were some salves you could buy over the counter that were stronger than you get that way now. My Dad kept a pencillin salve that seem to help heal all of my many cuts and stings. I did and still do have a strong immune system.

Another interesting insight into your life as a child. Grabbing a snake by mistake, and that cut on your foot ... both could have ended in disaster! I am enjoying all these stories of times in the past now never experienced by children.
Wendy
It might be a cultural difference in spelling, but should it be "gauge" for the pressure cooker?
"It the back pasture was where the pond was located." (Perhaps reword to "The pond was in the back pasture" for clarity.)

Thank you Dolly. I'm glad I still have those memeories. Many were painful back then but dealing with all that happens to us is what makes us who we are.

Judi, I really enjoyed reading this chapter in your book "Growing up in Mississippi. I could so relate to you getting your foot cut from the broken glass. That same thing happened to me when I was a young girl. My mother was upset because she had just moped the floor. I had to have stitches in my foot also. Hey, maybe we are twins of sort! lol Great job. love and blessings, teri

Thank you Teri. There were so many minor accidents I had as a child. I should have had stitches in my foot but the idea of have it sewed up freaked me out. I would let my parents have a good look at it. Thank you so much for the six stars.
