Grandma's do love their grandchildren. I know, I have a few myself and always enjoy being with them. Thank you for sharing this fun rhyming poem with us. Good luck with the contest.

Hi Katharine,
I can visualize the grandmother and granddaughter in your poem. It's a great relationship that grandparents can have with their grandchildren, not the same for mothers & fathers. But getting into a tub with clothes on? That would be fun. However, big cleanup job... the floor would be soaked! Carrie's mother would be mortified as she opened the bathroom door. You've managed to tell a fun story here, nice entry for the "Poem For A Child" contest, and I wish you goof luck!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Thanks, Kimbob, for your neat comments. I, as a grandmother, would not get in the tub with my clothes on, but most of my posts are fiction, and I thought the idea might seem funny to a child.
Hope all is well with you! And thanks for reading my stuff!

poem lover, I like the poem spelling it's special and quirky in the best way! And this is so heartwarming, it's a wonderful thing, the love between you all! You are pretty cool , your grandaughter is right! I am almost seventy and I couldn't get up out of the tub anymore, my husband, sweetie that he is, just bought me a Safe Step, installed just 2 weeks ago. But now I am waiting for a new water heater before I can truly enjoy it, now it doesn't get hot enough.
But I digress. I love your writing, you have a real talent! Maddy l typed pome lover and cellphone corrected me, haha!

You are most kind! Actually most of my writings are totally made up just for fun. My granddaughter is now 25!! I wrote for children during her growing up years, and believe me, she gave me plenty to write about.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments. I understand about "spell correct'". Sometimes I make up words or use slang and the SP police are on me like a shot. :)

Wish I had a sixth star. That is a lovely poem that any grandmother would love to be so loved, and any child would love such fun with grandma. I do think Grandmother was wise to suggest a walk the next time.

Hello Katharine,
This is a delightful poem. There is a special bond between kids and their grandparents. I suppose it has something to do with not having to worry about all the things parents have to worry over, and they have a lot more time to do fun things. In some cases, I suspect that it gives the grandparents a chance to do the things they wish they'd done with their kids. Enjoy the time with your grown up granddaughter gal.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Tom, those are very insightful thoughts and I agree. Thank you for them and for reading my poem.
Am trying to get ready for their visit, now - she's coming at 4:30 with her boyfriend. Have been blowing the whole back and side which is either cement or decking- lots of sticks and debris, etc, left from what bits of the hurricane we got. Now to clean the table and chairs on the patio in case they want to sit outside, etc, etc. and skim the pool to get out the stuff I just blew in. :) It's hard for me not to talk to them about what's going on today. I'd really like to know what they think, but that's a no-no, so so much for that. Anyway, it will be good to see them. And I am pleased that they wanted to come by before heading back to Austin.
Thanks again, and have a good weekend.

You made me smile here as Grandma's can't always do the things youngsters can do, but they are loved just the same, a fine poem for the contest, love Dolly x

Thanks, Dolly! Fortunately my granddaughter is 25, so I don't really have to worry about a challenge like that :) But we used to do fun, crazy things together. And she' coming down from Austin, tomorrow for a quick visit, so we stay in touch, which I love, of course.
    Thanks again!

Only read this poem to a child if you're willing to take a bath with them!!! This was delightful and entertaining and done with perfect rhyme and meter. I think it's a serious contender for the Poem for a Child contest! I'll keep my bubbles...er, I mean, my FINGERS!...crossed for you!

Thankfully, or maybe not, my only grandchild (a granddaughter) is now 25, and single, so, sniff, no little ones, so I'm safe. Ha!
Thanks for reading it and for you neat comments.
I read one the other day by somebody who had you in the story with her - can't remember who it was, but was surprised. It was a fun story. What did you think of it, or do you know what I'm talking about?
reply by Rachelle Allen on 12-Jul-2024
Yes!! I'm totally familiar with it! It's GW Hargis, and she and I are co-writing that book. We write the same chapter from different pov's, and it's been such a fun endeavor. If you "fan" me, you'll see both of our chapters when they hit. It's not too late to catch up, though. The chapters aren't long, and they're fun, so I honestly think you'd enjoy it! xoxo

It must be somewhere in the grandmother's code of behavior that we'll do pretty much anything (legal) to bond, laugh, love, and create memories!
This is splendid, and yes ~ I'd do it in a heartbeat too!

They grow up so fast! We've got to tap our inner child and play!

Big smiles...

Karenina

Thanks so much, Karenina! I have to admit my inner child isn't all that "inner." I've always loved crazy, fun things - one reason I love writing children's stories.
Many thanks for your neat comments!

I'm seventy. You should see the "side-eye" coming my way when I'm at the park playing wiffle ball with my grandson or enjoying some time on the swings! After a certain age people think I'm eccentric (instead of just crazy!)

    LOL

    Go for it!
I hate to tell you how old I am, a bunch older than you, but I still think younger. My one and only grandchild, my granddaughter is now 25! BUT we used to do fun, crazy things.
    Anyway, eccentric is good :)

This is great fun. Loved the rhyme in this. I'd advise Grandma to get a walk-in tub, That way she wouldn't have trouble getting to the tub. She could get one with jets just to liven things up. I found that I was having difficulty getting out of the tub, so now I have a walk-in shower with grab bars and a seat. It's not like a tub, though. I could tell the fun the grandmother and her grandchild were having. Yes, that's one cool grandma. It's wonderful Carrie appreciates her. This is a delight to read, and best of luck to you in the contest. judi

thanks, Judi! I have a regular old tile shower - small, but my sweet daughter put grab bars in there which I do hold on to at times. A seat would be nice, but there's no room. I love the hot water beating down on my shoulders, though, and of course, it's handy to wash my hair.
Thanks for reading and for your good wishes!

You're welcome. The grab bars are good. I like the seat. I'm such a wimp I have to have a hand-held shower. judi

    don't know why that's being a wimp.
I'm afraid if I sat down in a nice hot shower I'd never get up.. I have learned that I can go to sleep at my computer and my head hasn't hit the desk yet. 'Course, there's always a first time. :)
    Speaking of...I'm off to bed.

I don't like all that water hitting me full force. I have been falling asleep at the computer a few times, too. judi
