As you stated, children don't remember much prior to attending school, but I believe traumatizing events are remembered. I've read several First Memory contest entries, and they all seem to be about events that occurred at age one, two, or three.
Personally, I remember the fear of walking. My mother placed toys some distance away and encouraged me to walk to them. I remember my fear.
Your story is clear, flows smoothly, and is well written. I wish you the best in the contest.

This was a wonderful story that chronicled a first memory. Far too often the things that we forget is wrapped up in the importance of telling our story. We think our children and grandchildren wouldn't want to hear about the funny things or the sad things or the exciting things or even the mundane things that helped make up our life and times.

I have inherited the love of storytelling, family history, and genealogy from my dad who spent 40+ years compiling our family history. I love those stories and love re-telling them to the next generations. Recently I've begun writing my memoirs because, when I am gone, who will tell them? Thank you so much for your review.
